Hi Les,

I think CFOX's most popular DJ was Dean Hagopian.
I found the following information on www.imdb.com

Hagopian was at CFOX in the late '60s and early '70s and later moved to CJFM
where he did the "Solid Gold Show."
Was an On-Air personality at CKGB in Timmins, Ontario, Canada back when it
was at 680 on the AM dial. Left to take first acting role in "Scanners
(1981)".
Before his days as the legendary "Dean of Montreal" on 1470 CFOX, Hagopian
was the leader singer for the "Staccatos" in 1963 and 1964. Hagopian left the
group before "Half Past Midnight" was released in 1966, but it's likely he
played it on his show a few times in his career. The Staccatos went on to
international fame and fortune as the "Five Man Electrical
Band."

He was a diabetic, he would come into the room after the 2nd period , dead on his feet , he would eat a chocolate bar, and fire came into his eyes ,he did well , after selling he worked at CJAD till the end of his days . jim

You know Im4golf, I used to hang around that Tavern, Story. I was involved with the cubs , and one winter we had our annual banquet , cant remember where , and the guest at the head table was Steve Renko , who pitched for the Expos , we became good friends and used to visit that tavern often. I remember going to the Olympic Stadium with my son , to watch Steve pitch. They played  O Canada , and the guy in front of me did not stand up , my son was only 5 and I did not want to get into a fight while I had my son in tow . However I remember saying to myself if that ever happens again , look out . Sure enough I went to A canadians hockey game with my wife and the guy in front of me did not stand up, I reached down and grabbed him by the shoulders and pulled him up and made him stand for the whole of O Canada , you should have seen the look on peoples faces around us , That guy did not move for the rest of the game , geez I was nuts hahahaha   jimmy

Kungfu   The ex's cousin and myself had season tickets way back when for the Als at the big O one year..before they put the roof on it..He would find a way to take off at anthem time with some of his pals from work and only come back after it was over. Took me a couple of games to figure this out...So being from Verdun and having an opinion about it I kinda mentioned it..needless to say with him being on her side of the family and such it was a short season and the end of the season ticket experiment. Funny thing was after later on he did see the light after travelling the country and last I heard switched sides... So from me I agree with you it gets me going when people sit too.   Lad

Saw the Fox in Vancouver 30+ years ago,.and wondered if it was somehoe affiliated,..but I don't think that is the case,.       (but not really sure,......never checked),.....but it didn;t escape my thought at that time,...... if in fact ,it was even that long ago??  but it seems no matter how far we travel,.or where we live ,.we make constant comparisons to Montreal even the name of streets or buildings,...I find that mentally ,I pronounce them in French,...................only to hear later that ,the locals pronounce it differently,............Yikes ( they are wrong ,.we're right...........hahahah)  same goes for travelling stateside,...especially through Maine,NH, Mass,Vermont & some parts of NY...............there are many French names dotting those rural mailboxes,..and yet names like Poirier are always pronounced Poor E Yer,...........................hahahahahah YIKES .......................                                                        .....the Fox Rocks...........(I think that's the catch phrase that always made me think they really were related to CFOX (in Montreal,LabelleProvince).....................................hahahahha HF&RV

Les,
I think this is Joe Pyne who was on CKGM. Joe moved to Los Angeles after CKGM. Joe became extremely popular. He was a heavy smoker and died at age 44 in 1970. If Joe got mad at a caller he would yell "Get off my line" and hang up on the guy. He was fun to listen to-Fresco

Interesting Fresco,..........I think, we think, along the same lines,.and enjoy somewhat the same interests in radio.......  I think, at least for myself.  that comes from  laying in bed at night and tuning in different channels, and listening to many different topics,,,,,( a lot of Hockey Games of course)...but a lot of late night radio, from what seemed like another world altogether (anotherworld,...........yea I know ,it's an old joke)    along the lines of don't call me surely...............   However :   It is not Mr Pyne,...........but it was CKGM (at least for a while) .............................................     HF&RV

Les,
I still do that. When my wife falls asleep I put on the headset and listen to AM radio. When we lived in New York I could get CKLW 800 Windsor, Ontario and CHML 900 Hamilton, Ontario on most nights. Growing up I listened to Danny Gallivan broadcast the hockey games on radio. WPTR 1540 Albany used to get a good signal into Montreal at night. Wolfman Jack became famous when he broadcast from a high power Mexican Radio Station that could be heard over most of western Canada and western United States after dark when AM radio signals really travel. I have a new show I like these days. The John and Jeff Radio Show "The Third Shift." You can e mail John and Jeff and they will give you a shout out. Just like the old CKVL Request and Dedication Show-Fresco

Les,
Good One. You got me. I won't name this guy in case anyone else wants to guess who it is. I will just say that this guy.....P.B. was on CKGM after I left Montreal. I did hear him on return visits to Montreal however. I think P.B. replaced Joe Pyne of CKGM when Joe left for California. I'm not 100% sure on this however. P.B. had a great show also-Fresco

Les Wasn't that Pat Burns ?   He was So Irritating on his program, and disrespectful.  Didn't he leave for Vancouver eons ago.  Is he still going ?

les__f MSN said...

Yes Cocopuff  & Fresco,....................  (sounds like a breakfast ,kids might have,....  ) However your both right on........it was the annoyinh Pat Burns              " Burns ,Hotline go ahead" it wandered out west after his stint in Montreal,...............don't know how long he was there....................................................               HF&RV

les__f MSN said...

Cocopuff,........Pat Burns 'signed off the planet' in 1996     but here's a little info on him:  ( this may have been on that other site I posted,.but I'm not sure) Pat Burns The talk show host who gave Western Canadians a voice. Pat Burns' "Hotline" on CJOR radio gave Western Canadians an opportunity to speak of their frustrations with the Canadian system and how it treats us. Burns, who died in 1996, was an outspoken defender of freedom of speech, and freedom generally. He had extraordinary common sense, fearlessness, and a great sense of humour. We hope to have some editorials from the past on this site in the future, but for now, you can get a very small taste of his views with some editorials transcribed here. "I see absolutely no hope for the West...." "The subject of Western Separatism will not go away..." (with quotations from Peter Brimelow on the subject of Western separatism) "How to get a fair deal for B.C."   .................................................................................................HF&RV

les__f MSN said...

now I think I could have posted this under Yikes Stuff.................hahahah   it seems Pat Burns did rather well ,going out West ,.......apparently Burn's Hot line,.was doing so well,.that a rival local Vancouver Radio Stn,.tried to lure him over to their side (CKNW,.still around Btw:) but checkout this,  carrot they dangled to get him ,back in 1965 ...........(no wondered ,he stayed out west) Pat Burns, at rival CJOR, built such a hotline following that CKNW tried to poach him by offering - in 1965 - the unheard of salary of $14,400 a month, a car and a custom studio.   .........................$14,440 / month ./.was a lot of cabbage ,in those days,to annoy some people,.or make some happy, or make some mad.......                             hmmmmmmm I'm doing it for nothing..........hahahahaaha                                             Have Fun & Remember Verdun

I think this is so funny......are you saying that  women were annoyed because they were  called "doll" by these radio DJ's .....lol.....women have been called a lot worse .....I could think of some recent names that women were called and "doll" would be pretty mild by todays standards.....BTW.....wasn't the other one Joe Pine?

Hi Happy   I can remember one them after awhile would say "You're gone doll" or to that effect...first time I ever heard doll used like that until I heard it one night at home when someone called a lady neighbor the old doll next door.Of course I might have picked that one up and used it once or twice when talking about my mother too.   Good times,,,   Lad
