Low life SCAM artists

Here's a good one I just recieved an email, that came through a direct result of signing a Guest Book  ,in the Obits for a friend of mines Mother,.....
and this Bum is trying to solicit some Do-Re-Mi, from me ,,,,,,,,,,,,hahahahaha
Read This :
Message: greetings,

i will first of all console
you on the death of your loved
one,i know how you are not
feeling right now as death
have also stolen my loved ones
and the feelings of emptiness
and sorrow has not left me
uptil this moment.am really
sorry if my mail will offend
you,i really needed assistance
and came to the cyber cafe
close to where i am staying
because i do not know much
about computers and internet
and asked the lady assistant
to help me locate my godmother
and former school teacher when
i was in the seminary school
who was so fond of me and who
taught me the basic things
that i knew in
life,humility,honesty,tolerance
and the fear of God,she
relocated abroad and i lost
her contact,i trusted her.

I will beg to ask you a few
questions,do you have the fear
of God in you,do you have
human sympathy for the less
fortunate victims of disasters
like tsunami and hurricane
Katrina and lately hurricane
Rita that left a lot of people
homeless and dead.

please write back if you have
a heart for others

.................................. Guess He doesn't know ,"I see Dumb People"...hahaha
I won't post my reply ,..as I'd have to 'censor it myself'           hahahahaha
it had a lot of very recognizable words in it,..........(in any language)
.....  To Avoid this I would suggest ,that when & if any of you sign those online guestbooks for the Obits,.that you Do Not click or check the 'Contact Me ' box which allows anyone to send you an email,........they can't see your email, but they can contact you through clicking on your 'Contact Me' deal,........
...............          Just thought I'd Mention it....................

I meant to ad the email address from this idiot, just in case any of you ever see this in your in box??             jkope4@voila.fr           I believe the .fr on the end indicates it origiantes from France,....(But I'm not certain,......  I would not recommend emailing directly from your own email,..but if you ever recieve something like this ,.you can respond through a 'hotmail acct' then just add it too junk mail............. I really didn't like the idea of someone 'hoping to prey on people' through an Obituarie Guestbook,..............................Yikes ,.......

Les, I must agree with you, you will meet scum in almost every area of life.  This one in particular is unbelievable. And to think some people fall for his scheme. Thanks very much for this info..I hope people will take note.

Hello Rosemary133,..............  I love your description ,,,,,,,, 'scum' I used it with a few descriptive adjectives,.in my response.....................hahahahahah Great minds think alike I guess,.......................hahahah                   Yes it is amazing anyone does fall for these things,...but it really bugs me that some (scum as you say) will even attempt doing it.

Hi Les, this is a good point, many people do not realize that no matter what free service you sign up for and for any public place on the internet (including this site) they are opening themselves to being traced.  Pop up blockers and firewalls DO NOT PROTECT you from that, they only protect your computer from being traced but this does not mean you cant put a name or address into the net to find someone.   No matter how innocent it may be, you are always at risk.  I may be a bit paranoid but I keep to these two basic principles, number one I always make up phone and addresses and I use a generic mailbox like yahoo or msn which is also made from a phony address.  We make friends on the net, chat with them, nothing wrong with that, but you must remember you TRULY do not know them..........and they do not really know you do they?  Think about it, do you not tend to exagerrate some of what you tell people, then logic dictates that THEY do
too. I am not saying not to use the internet to its fullest potential, just be safe when you do....

I have to give credit to the efficiency of the Canada.com people who run & oversee the  online Guest Books for the Obituary's.....  They are on top of things I am impressed with service,.as it's becomming more & more a rarity these days Here's their reply to my request:  Dear Les,  We understand your concern about spammers harvesting your e-mail address from our Web site. To prevent this, we do not display any user’s e-mail address in the Guest Books. Instead, a link labeled “Contact me” is displayed in the Guest Book. Clicking this link allows anyone to send e-mail to the author of that Guest Book entry without ever obtaining his or her e-mail address.  Unfortunately, we cannot prevent spammers from sending e-mails through the “Contact me” links. Please note that nobody will ever see your e-mail address, and entering your e-mail address is not required to sign a Guest Book.  We have removed the “Contact me” link from your Guest Book entry. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.  LinneaLegacy.com   .............I just thought I share the update,........ but I would recommend 'not checking' the box allowing people to 'Contact Me' which would allow contact by spammers,......(but that's Your Choice) ............................................................................................ In this day & age we are quick to condem bad service ,.so i think we should also take the time to Give Credit where's its due,.when we recieve Good Service So 'kudos' ( always hated that word)...hahahah  but 'kudos' to Legacy.comat Canada.com  (Parent Company of the GAzette & of course many other newspapers across Canada).........................

Whenever I receive an email with many email addresses attached, I copy all those addresses and paste them to the BCC column of a fresh email. (I received one this morning with 45 addresses !).
I paste the Spam warning to letter and send it off to all 45, including the original sender (in ther BCC column of course). What usually happens, I get an angry email from the original sender. He's insulted! Can you believe it? Once those addresses are sent to me, they are mine fella.

Thanks biking,.it seems we get targeted for no reason,.....but you've got a reasonable solution,........... I don't know why ,but I have talked to quite a few people this past two weeks,.that have had either email problems,.address books accessed,.or whatever,.even a couple of our larger instu=ittutions hers Victoria had warnings of breaches insecurity,.......most for some reason,.were linked to some sort of problem ,with Windows Updates,......this was more a problem of slowing things down,.......but the other annoyances were of email nature,........... Unfortunately ,if your a little creative ,you can use someones address book,......even though we employ every type of protection re: anti-virus,..ant spyware,.etc etc,................Generally no real problems arise from them,.....but when your on a 'forward to list' you can end up with solicitations from anyone who see 's your email.................................... but it's harder & harder for real damage to be done to our Pc's ,..........more a nusance factor,...............................Thanks for your solution, to one of these problems......................................                                                      HF&RV

Second Ave....what a brilliant .  Never thought about that course of action, will have to try it myself.  We have all sorts of blockers, checkers, yada yada, but we still get emails that have umteen addresses of which we're only one, so this could prove very interesting.

hi still trying to track down stuff,..and inform the resat of us on SCAMS or just general nonsense stuff,.....................(and I'm usually fairly tenacious,as well as adept at locating things),.........but here's some info ,that may be of interest in keeping your pc clean,...or at least keeping on top of things yourself,.........          \ A. Whoever hijacked or spoofed your email address and use it as a "reply to: address" are victims of new from of harassment in which fake or boogie messages was sent-out posing as the original owner of the email address by spoofing--usually done by dissatisfied or fired employees, competitors, pranksters, junk mailers, provocateurs or due to someone computer infected with "spam zombies or spambot" and your email address is in their address book.   Fotrunately these are very ,limited threats to your ,your PC's security,......and absolutely nothing to worry about,............but good to know.............also I will post some ways to  track your PC's  or rather track the source of Who  is tracking you...........Just give me a little time,...and we'll  locate the source...........   Some of your Anti -Virus or Anti Spyware will also  Alert you to  a ' Hi-Jack Attempt'...................  This too happens ,at times but poses not much of a tthreat ,.unless they actually get into your computer,............Again  Highly Unlikely,....so don't worry, but Remember what our parents always taught us,.....'Don' t Trust Strangers'...................................hahahahahhaha                             Have Fun & Remember Verdun,....... ( I will update periodically)

Here's some failrly well known information,.....but if you haven't seenit before it may be of interest,: How to be notified automatically?
This is one of the ways you can get your mail client (Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, etc.) to notify you automatically whenever a worm or virus tries to sent out email from your address book. 1. Simply start-up your mail client and click add new contact. 2. In the field for your new contact name, enter; AAA then when the program prompt you for an email address, enter; VirusAlert complete the rest of the process and save. This is how it works; AAA will be the first entry in your address book, therefore when any virus or worm attempt to send mail from your address book--starting with the first contact (AAA) it will be unable to deliver to a non-existing address (VirusAlert) and your mail client will notified you almost immediately. Note: The above method will not prevent virus infection and will not work effectively--if the virus has been programmed to randomly selects addresses. Remember  :   as old Smokey used to say "It's Up to You to Stamp out,SPAM flare ups".............hahahahahahah     OK  Forest Fires !!!!
