Immigration

This should apply to the Canadian immigration policies as well I think.
Second Avenue.

The year is 1907, one hundred years ago Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on
Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes
here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us,
he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it
is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed,
or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's
becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an
American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says
he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all.
We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for
but one language here, and that is the English language... and we
have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the
American people."

This sent to me by a friend. Thought it would be of interest.

On another point, I’ve been trying to envision this mass exodus and repatriation of 12 million Mexicans from all around the country. One wonders what incredibly efficient government agency is going to handle this process, on either side of the boarder.
…and what happens in Mexico ? Do they touch the freedom pole, pay their 5000.00 and then return?
One should remember that the Mexican government (who would actually possess the freedom pole) would probably want their cut.
Would the pilgrims be herded into one large city or would this more closely resemble Caesar’s taxing of the ancient world, where each is sent to his city of birth?
But more importantly, does anyone believe that this is actually going to happen?
… In point of fact, don’t we have to conclude that what this amounts to is one big dog and pony show designed to cover up the real meat of this legislation … the importation of cheap foreign labor.

Bill. How many times have we read in the newspaper about SOMEONE (ONE) being deported. The only reason the congress is trying to do something about it, is because they can't do anything about it. As far as Mexico is concerned, they are glad these people are coming to the USA. Not only do they get rid of less people to take care of, but these people send billions of dollars back their families, which means less people again to take care of. It really helps their economy. They are exporting their people, and importing our dollars. It is a good deal for them....

Would someone explain tro me why Americans are sweating about the Canadian border when who knows what is walkin in from Mexico. What terrorist would take a chance coming into Canada and another chance crossing into the U.S. when he could fly to Mexico and walk across the border.                    Ed
