I've been "feeling" my way around FACEBOOK but there are not many that have claimed Verdun High School in their background. Verdun Protestant High School has a few. (Never was a "protestant" in the school name) I suppose once I get comfortable at Facebook, I'll find a few old friends though.

Yes I have looked at this Facebook . com thing,.and it's while being a good idea,.seems to be sortof like Graduates . com,.......  but I too will continue to search around the site,..........hopefully find a lot of Verdun pictures ,.or whatever,..........  Good to find new sites though,....                                              HF&RV

Re FaceBook I went there and was roaming around and I am now getting all kinds of warning messages about Spyware along with offers for free scans and software at $60.  This stuff seems to be taking over my computer.. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of this stuff... HELP

les__f MSN said...

Thanks for the warning Wayne,........I just joined the Facebook the other day,...and found it to be not all I thought it would be,.....so I think I'll heed your warning & dump the thing........or just don't gop back in,..... Run all your ad-aware programs,.and run of course your anti-virus,.... and then I would suggect going into tools ,.then click on internet options,.then delete (there's not much danger harming anything,.it will delete temp files,.cookies,.....etc etc ,........We' ll try & walk you through most things,....I thought I'd seen most stuff,.but there's always people out there planning something new.........hahahaha  Why I don't know. There are also some free virus checkers and spyware removers on the internet ,..go to CNET . Com ..........and look under Downloads,....... if you read most things carefully ,you can do all of them without creating a problem for your self,.............There's many protections available to you,. Good Luck,.........

I have joined facebook and have had no ill experiences. I don't really like the message system but I have reconnected with some "old" acquaintances.

I can't say that I have,.but thought I'd check things out first,.generally computers nowadays have a lot of protection ,.but I also didn't find anything too immediate,.either ,so perhapos I'll just check it out once in a while .like I mentioned about grads.com or somehting like that,.....It gets used at first then seemd to die off,.and I really didn't find much,.....I'm genereally looking for old pisctures ,.or websites that have a bunch of Montreal content,...so claassmates are just fun to find if I happen to come across them ,.but to seek themout,... not my thing,........................................but I appreciate the possible leads,......

My son has registered me but I hesitate to get on.  Seems to me more of a communication tool for the young ones of today.  My 22 year old has connected with several of his friends from highschool and even  his long lost cousins.  I belong to 3 sites and any more will just add more flab to my already middle age spread......:-)

Wayne, It could be that your Anti-virus is outdated. O good A-V program is money well spent. We don't always see the results of it like other programs but it is always there and working. Free software programs could be spyware in itself, checking what you have in your computer. In any case, just telling you that you have a virus is not enough. Programs like McAfee and Symantic's Norton constantly upgrade to remove the latest spyware etc. In Montreal I use Videotron's 'Freedom' I pay a few dollars per month and have no worrys.                Ed

Most service providers,.actually have a built in anti-virus, but if yourun the ad-aware (lavasoft website),.you can at least clean out most of the 'tacking cookies' that are placed there from just about every site you visit,......(most are not dangerous tey just help to find the same page again quicker,.but I still clean all that stuff out often,.......heloing me to narrow down a specific time should I ever have a problem  with the computer,..... There is a site that offers a very good Free Scan it's called  Trend-Micro (check it out),.they also have programs available for a fee,.but You can do the Scan,.as well as run a test to check your PC for vulnerability's ,.....it's actually quite good,..........another good anti virus is  AVG  (free) and it's not a spyware in itself,........they give you the free edition, and you can schedule it to run at whatever time you like (maybe when you first start up or whatever) it also tracks & protects your PC in 'real time' (and it will serve you notice immediately should you come across an infected site)......... ...but again start with a clean slate & run those programs, your PC will speed up a bit if it's cleaned out of all the unused cookies,............Good Luck                                             HF&RV

Just my opinion, I've been there, and for me, it's great. I have reconnected with old friends, and new. I have a Mac, so I can't comment on the icky things that end up on your computer, I don't get those, but definately getting some sort of virus protection is always a safe bet.

edbro68 MSN said...

Virus protection doesn't work, I still caught a cold.     Ed

It makes no difference whether you have a MAC or any other Computer, Facebook does collect a lot of information,.......and if your willing to forward that,.then you will get some action fron the site,.... As for me I almost think of FAcebook as a 'Fad' ,.................and it's the new way of joining the old   dot.coN ..........world ,.......it will be just like 'MySpace' or any of those type of deals,...(My Opinion),............So whatever you all decide to join out there ,do it with caution........................                                                                                                  HF&RV

Yes Dell has got some good 24/7 support for Life,.............and I've used it,..and still operate a Dell PC,....but my last purchase a couple of month ago was for a laptop,.notebook,...whatever they want to call it,........and it was an HP ,.... support is still very good,...and inspite of having had good service from Delll for the other computer ,.I selected the HP for  being able to do all of what Dell can,.as well as all that a computer can,..........but I was eluctant to go MAC,.simply because I have had them in the past ( albeit ,a long time ago),.and it was very good at doing many things,......but was incompatible with te rest of the worlds wide web (at that time)................any computer will be susceptible to attack regardless of it's name badge,......as there seems to be Hacks out there bent on breaking any machines protections,.......Why I Still don't know!!!! but there is a lot of good security out there,...But when does it stop being fun,.and start being more like Paranoia,............???  Homeland Security made noises about wanting to 'monitor' home computer activities,..........I think we' ve become Russia ,............and now they are free'er than us...............hahahahaha So if 'Big Bro' wants into your PC,......it won't matter if it's MAC or HP......... see I nade it rhyme (slightly)................hahahahahahahah Just Have Fun ,...............and who gives a (sssh  is anyone listening)......cr*p                      Have Fun & Remember Verdun                                                   (crackle crackle ......Georgy W,......did you get all that)...............................hahahahahhaha

The US military have been banned from utube and myspace supposedly b/c of Dr. Laura Schlessinger's son. Her son, who is a soldier in Iraq, is said to have posted a perverted video on utube or was it my space? Some think it's a Al Qaeda conspiracy to undermine the moral of the troops. We'll soon know the truth.

Sandy ,you got a good deal,if it's only a two year old Dell,...they are good equipment,...............................................I only changed ,.because Dell was not willing to be flexible ,.when I offered to buy the patop from them,........ I have met with success in the past by 'asking' for more stuff thrown into te deal,.when ordering from Dell ( I know most people belive you can't deal with Dell,.cause the price is the price,////////BS you can negotiate everything).....I got many things added to a supposed one price only deal through Dell,........You have to ask,..........But I got an imbecile last time when I called there number to order,........( imbecile is CODE for getting a sales pep in Toronto who sounded a lot like the suppoert workers in India.......................(not that there's anything wrong with that..........hahahahah)  and he didn't understand the concept that I 'will' spend the Do-Re-Mi somewhere else if I don't see some movemment on price.............I'm glad I did it ,.....Dell is not the end all be all of PC's ,.....Although I have channelled quite a few sales to Dell in the past, friends etc etc,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,..... In any case You have a good Computer ,...& they do look after you,......... but don't be shy to shop around too....................It Pays:                                                                                          HF&RV

Yes Laura S ,......is the epitompy of Moral Standards........................hahahaha at least the last time I saw her litle muffin in some old pictures........................hahahahahahah  Yup great for Morale ,.......to be being killed for your country, while fighting for Freedom,...........and being 'banned' from the 'Homeland' from watching what you want,...........................................(wave flag here).............hahahahah    Thanks for that info SA,.........................I hadn't hear that newest addition to our ever increasing Freedoms.......................Thanks GW,..........(or Mr VP) whoever's really in charge.........................................

The main reason hackers have not gone after macs is because there are not enough out there to interest them. They'll get around to it. Ed

You can lead a horse to water but teach him the back stroke and you'll have something.

I miss the horses. We used to wash the ice we got from the ice wagon in the horses watering troughs. Good for washing apples too. Slime from the horses mouth put a shine on them.   Ed
