Savoy Theatre

Here are 2 before and after photos of the Savoy Theatre. I believe the license number on the car is 1947.I saw many movies there in the 40s and 50s as did many Verdunites. It is the same building as I recognised the bricks on the side wall on Willibrord.
Also shown is the photo of the corner of 5th and Wellington where the old Fifth Ave. theatre was situated . The whole building was completely rebuilt. Also shown is the currant building where the Palace theatre was situated.I hope to eventually find pictures of all  4 old theatres of  the Verdun, Park, Palace,  Fifth Ave and the Savoy, all to be displayed at the SHGV. These theatres had a large impact on our lives as this was mainly before TV.

Guy. The Savoy and the 5th Avenue thaetres were great. It looks like there are none left in Verdun. What a shame!!!!

Hello Guy ,.that shot of the Savoy building as it is today,.is rather sad in a way,,,,,,the old entrance (to the Theater),was far more appealing: So it's a  Uniprix Store?   I guess that's a drugstore sort of?? ..What does the old Steinberg's store look like now?  Is it redone?   I Remember when the SAvoy building became a Consumers Distributor's franchise,....as a young guy,.I bought My Mother a Family Ring from there,.and she still has it to this day,..it's a ring ,with the Birthstone of each of her children, mounted in it........................Think I bought it late 60's????? She loves it,.(or at least said she did.........hahahahahah) maybe she only puts it on when she comes over here.......hahahahahah  I'll check this aftrenoon,as she's coming for supper/dinner ....................

Les   The old Steinberg's is IGA now I think. Gregory's is now a pizza place. Across from IGA is Dunkin Donuts with a parking lot. Too bad about that one. We climbed on roof one firecracker night and my friends Dad tossed a couple at a guy on corner.Guy was undercover for that night..so next thing you know we got an escort off the roof..Aaah the memories.Anyone have any from that night?Think they call it Victoria Day offically.   Lad
