Betty Corrigan; Pauline Isabelle; and so many more

I have lost contact with Betty and the last time I saw her was 30 years ago. I haven't seen Pauline in almost 50 years. Would love to contact my friends from St
. Willibrord's. Our family left Verdun in 1958 and I was in Grade 7 then.

I am now in Vancouver, older but wiser :)

Hi Susan   Guess what,  I saw your information on Verdun Connections and was so shocked to see my name.  I would love to talk to you.  I live in Kelowna and I know you like in Van.  I was just there last weekend. E-mail me back and I will give you my phone number.   Pauline Isabelle (Hareuther)

Dear Pauline,   This is just too exciting! And you live in Kelowna!!! My God! We live (my husband Sven and I) on a float home at Grant's Landing on the Fraser River just west of Fort Langley!   I have made contact with Sandra Spain. Do you remember her? She is in NY. We have to find more old classmates!   I am sending you a pic I took while on business in Montreal last year. Is it your old home?   I am also sending a pic of where we now live. Hope we will meet soon!   Susie

Sandy, Can you put the names you have for the kids in the grade 4  picture. Supposed to get to 32 degrees here and I bet Pauline can fry an egg on her lovely sun deck today!

Sandy,
I'm offended that my name is not on the list. I never make any lists. The picture of you in class sitting in the front row is great. I used to try and get lost in the middle section of the rows in the hope that I would not be called on by the teacher to answer questions. It didn't work and if I knew the answer I was never called on-Walter

Hi Sandy... I was looking at the list of names and twins Margaret and Maureen Newton went to Marymount high school and Paul's mother was a friend of their mother. I cannot tell you if it is Margaret or Mauren in the picture! I don't think they finished high school at Marymount but Margaret was in grade 9 or 10 with me.   Small world!!! Dianne

Sandy, isn't it weird how we know some of the same people but we never 'met' until we joined VC?   I think I had Margaret in my classes, from what I recall in the deep recesses of my mind...LOL...she wasn't too keen on school.   Margaret and Maureen were very pretty girls.

Hi Walter,   I remember many times while at St. Willibrord's trying to get over the fence dividing the boys side from the girls side. I made many trips to the principal's office to see her ruler!   Susie

Sandy, I remember telling my Mom and Dad that I was goiing to stay and live with my Grandmother and Grandfather and not move to Windsor with them after my Dad got transferred! But at 12, I lost that battle, but never forgot my friends. To think that they have lived in my memory frozen in time all these years. I love it. Susie

Hi Susie!   No I didn't go to your school. I lived in Cote St.Paul and went to Holy Cross and then Marymount High School.   I met Sandy here on VC and we found out that we had a friend in common that lives here in my neighbourhood of Beaver Bank, Nova Scotia. The friend worked with Sandy in Montreal. And from that time on we have been corresponding via the message boards etc.   The Newton twins went to Marymount but I don't think they graduated when I did, I think they had moved away again. I think I had Margaret in my class either grade 9 or grade 10. It is a long time ago!!!   Dianne

Sandy,
I would have loved to have been in your forth grade class. Did Miss Robinson stay happily married? Maybe I would have got lucky like Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate. I'd be singing "Here's to you Mrs Gamberg, Jesus loves you more than you will know, wo wo wo..." Walter

Hi Susie,
I hated the fact that Montreal Schools were divided into Girls and Boys separate sections and classes. The only time I was ever in mixed classes was in summer school at West Hill High. It was a lot of fun and a better system. All the guys studied harder so they wouldn't look stupid in front of the girls-Walter

Sandy,
When it came to school there were a lot of questions that I had no answer for. If I knew the answer I was never called on to give it-Fresco

Susie,
I love Windsor Ontario. I had two friends from Montreal who were hired by Windsor Raceway in 1964. I went to visit them a couple of times. I remember a fantastic ice cream parlor in Windsor. There was a marble top counter, the parlor was very old style looking and had really great ice cream. From 1965 to 2004 (the years I lived in New York) I would often listen to The Big 8, CKLW Windsor at 800 on the AM dial. The same dial spot as CJAD Montreal. CKLW's broadcast signal would boom in to New York as soon as it got dark. The Big 8 is a great radio station-Walter

Somehow a lot of the big moments in life have passed me by. In my next life I will make sure I get in to Miss Robinson's class-Walter

This is amazing. After only 6 months, I have found both Betty and Pauline and Sandy. Now we want to find many more from St. Willibrord's primary who went there between 1952 and 1958. And wouldn't it be fun to find some of our teachers?  What's 50 years when you were once friends.

Hi Susie, I was just reading some of the posts here and read this page.  My uncle was a priest and my aunt was a sister with the CND (a teacher).  Her name of Mother St. Hilda (later changed to Sister Kathleen Norris).  My uncle was Fr. Pat Norris.  I am sure he was at St. Willibrord's Parish sometime between 1952 & 1958 because I was born in 1953 and he baptized me at St. Willibrord's.  My aunt was also principal at Marymount, but I am not too sure what years.  Also, I see you live in Vancouver, I am also in Vancouver.  I was born in Verdun, live there until grade 3, moved to the South Shore and back to Verdun in Grade 8 and graduated from VCHS in 1970.    My husband and I are lay associates with the CND and some of the sisters are still around.  We spent a CND retreat weekend about 5 years ago in Naramata and I got to see Sr. Johnson, my principal from VCHS.  It was a special moment!    Anyway, just thought I'd drop a line just in case you might remember my uncle.  Maybe you knew the Norris Family.  Take care!   Donna :o)

In 1956, I was in grade 1 at St. Willibord's with Ms./Mrs. Powers as my teacher. I have the grade 1 class picture somewhere around here. In grade 5 or 6 I had Mr. Dubois who lived on Verdun Ave. a few doors from Wilson's Funeral Parlour. Mr. Doyle was the principal. He carried a bell that he rang in the school yard. At the first bell we had to freeze in place...at the 2nd bell we had to line up by class. The old VCHS building was in the same yard divided by a fence. I went to the new VCHS and I was the student council president in my last year. We did a fundraiser for our first VCHS yearbook and I have a newspaper clipping from the Verdun Messenger with Sister Johnson and Mr. Frank Hyland (vice principal) with me selling Sister Johnson the first chocolate bar. My mom said she was related to Sister Beaton. When in grade 8 I remember the doors between the girls and boys section at VCHS had a lock and chain. By the time I was in grade 11 the classes were mixed for some subjects. "Glory Days"
