St. Willibroads - '59

I graduated from St. Willibroads in 1959 and moved from Verdun in 1970.  I still have a house (summer cottage) north of Lachute therefore I return north each summer.  I would love to find others from that era.

Hi  TRUE_North,.......I think there are a few members from that same era of STWillibrords,......late 50's,........and there are several who also went to that school but graduated from the new high school ,VCH ,that replaced StWillibrord's ............  I ask everyone this,..........but if you have any old photo's from those times (or any photo's actually) we love to see them,......and any old story's you may want to share to................  Good luck with finding some friends from your school days..............

My name is Cecile Coupland - now Greene.  My sister taught at the new VCH in the 60's.  Her name is Joan Coupland - now Lawrence.  I did frequent Colford's Lodge but also the Alpino Lodge in Morin Heights.  I grew up on Godin across the vacant field from Ruth Armstrong.  I was so sorry to hear of her death. My best friend that I always got in trouble with was Diane St. Denis - she now lives in Pointe aux Chien.  The only person I know in Morin Heights is Richard Turcot who lived on 3rd avenue near Wellington Street.  Names that pop into my head - Pat Giroux who married Tom Thrasher, Geraldine  Fitzgerald, Lorraine Bouldry, Sandra McDonald, Sharron Stoddard.  I was in Verdun this summer on one of my trips to Montreal while I was staying up north.  Verdun looked good - went by my old house on Godin. The boardwalk looks great.  Maybe this information will jog some menories.

True North,   Like Sandy mentioned, your sister Joan Coupland, taught me English/Writing in Grade 9 at VCH in the sixties.  Please let her know what a great influence she was on my life and made a difference.   I came from a difficult European background where I was pretty well told I was no good and had no talent for anything even though I was such a good kid and loved school.  I kept everything inside.  It was Miss Coupland who told me I could write and she had me read my essays out loud to the class.  I was so shy.  I hated going home but loved school and learning and she influenced my reading and I remember her giving  me a copy of Jane Eyre at the end of the school year.  I still have it!    She was the first one to raise my self esteem and it was an uphill climb until today, I am  a published writer living in Edmonton.  My work has appeared in newspapers, several literary publications, an anthology and broadcast on the CBC.  I am currently working on several long term projects which include a novel, a memoir and a collection of short fiction.   It is because of her that  I took a different route.  I could have easily chosen another path.  Teachers are so important in a child's life and sometimes, they just don't know what a difference they can make.   Please please thank her for me for helping this lost 14 year old girl and telling her she had talent for writing and not to give up.  She knew me as Dolly Filipavicius.  And as some members will confirm here, I am no longer shy!

Hi Carolyn   I remember Diane Pigeon.  Your Aunt & Uncle...seems to me they had a son and daughter.   They rented a house on Lake Dawson, if I am right.    I live in Virginia Beach and have been here most of the time except for a short tour in CA.  My daughter and family live in Oxnard, CA but my son is still here.  He goes to Montreal ever chance he gets and has gone to Lakefield just about every summer for the last......30 years!!    I still tutor math and reading here.  I work in Kindergarten and love those little 5 year olds...at least most days. I sent my sister the info to check the Verdun Connection.  Although she lives in Brandon, Manitoba she comes to Montreal at least once a year.  The Verdun Connection is a great way to find people.   Have a great week.

I sent your message to Joan.  Hopefully she will join the Verdun Connection and you will receive ananswer from her.  She has retired from teaching and she and her husband stay on the road visiting their children and grandchildren.

Hi.
My name is Gerry Miner from Hawkesbury Ontario. We met Cecile Coupland through our friends Diane Conway and Tony Berthiaume.

Well hello Gerry Miner, glad you found this old thread. It just shows that even since the most recent comment on this topic before yours was from 2007...we can still make
Verdun Connections happen. Now maybe someone will see your comment and pop on here as well.
Thanks for surfing by
