Hi   Watch channel 12 news on the dish just about every night..in beginning looked like Liberals were up...then all 3 parties were tied..and now could be PQ win...or at least minority govt. Interesting to watch...   Lad

It's very important that Jean Charest and the Liberals prevail. We cannot afford another referendum. The PQmember for Verdun is oddl;y enough named Langlais. He and David Fennario of the new party are preaching that if Quebec separates we'll be on easy street. I'm hoping they will split the separatist vote. Maybe that's what Fennario is trying to do, if so God Bless him.        Ed

Ed and Lad......I hope the PQ do not win.....the country doesn't need to hear about referendums......but from what I have been hearing the PQ could win a minority.....I will be watching this one as usual with interest.....   Dianne

It always creates a lot of anxiety & stress amongst most of the population , the City of Montreal has been in a nice recovery after 30 years of 0 growth,. and I would not want own to much property,in Labelle Province,.with the uncertainty of direction,......I have friends still in Montreal who have all hedged there investments with property in other provinces (just in case),.I hate that the disruptivness ,is always caused, by relatively few,.but wanting to affect the many: Good Luck ,...those are the things I do not miss,..but still concerns me in many ways,........

The Lad ,...i have been listening to 940 AM ,.they are covering the election,.as well as having open lines for people to call in,....... http://www.940montreal.com/sch_Monday.php    (then click Listen Live) should be interesting ,.but I think I just heard that it may be the lowest ever Voter Turnout          (apathy ??)..............  if that's true Remember the old Adage ,.People Get the Gov't they Deserve...................... Vote (or don't complain).....I guess.............................        Vote Early & Often,..............................hahahahaha

Now Winnie that is a bit nasty  , if you dont care then , why discuss , I have a feeling Libs will get back in with a little bit of a majority, actually , I do not like any of the party's , so tough election to predict .

When will this crap in Quebec ever end? It was enough that the political situation at the time made a number of us leave around 70-75. And it continues today....much like the movie "Groundhog Day".

When will it end? Who knows. That is one of the reasons I left in 1972. When they told me I would "HAVE TO" speak French was when I made the decision to return to the United States. I loved my job, I love the people and I love living in Verdun. But when they mandated that I had 6 months to speak  and conduct business in french. In my mind I said F.U. !!!!!

Seems like this is a very tight election with no hints of who is in the lead or who will win from the early polls.

les__f MSN said...

When do they get to the real deciding polls??   ,,,,they always start counting from the outskirts it's seems to create a somewhat 'race of sorts' but Isn't the most likely case scenario that the Liberals are supposed to win,....with a surprising newcomer (relatively) in the ADQ   making big strides, and the PQ taking a bit of a beating as they have been mostly likely singlehandedly the biggest detractor of Quebec fortunes for many decades, .............................a couple of more hours will tell for sure Charest is still quite a ways behind ,in his own riding ,.........but again the polls seem to be ,being counted in a way that will most likely show him coming from behind to secure a win............................................ Is it too late to sell my shares in Spruce Beer company's ,..and Quebec Cheese,....and Oh no the bottom will fall out of my Quebec Pur Maple Syrup,......and what a sticky mess that will be....................................hahahaha

edbro68 MSN said...

Pretty much over. Liberals 45 ADQ 42 PQ 38 If adq joins with PQ there will be a referendum. However Mario Dumont (adq) has said he will be Fereralist.  Ed

les__f MSN said...

We 're hearing that the Liberals will most likely be forming a Minority Gov't, were also seeing present #'s as Lib 47 ADQ 41 pq 37......... I imagine these figures are still constantly changing,.........but Charest is still behind the Pq guy whoever that is...................       I would imagine there will also be recounts,.as some of the ridings seem rahter close,....but who ever knows???  Until all enveloppes with the brownies in them are in,.then it's anybody's game I guess.................. When in Doubt Bribe everyone,......................

les__f MSN said...

Liberals     47   ADQ         42   PQ           36   ____________   So Far  =  Liberal Minority,

les__f MSN said...

...................Sell now while the prices are still high,....................................................       ...Guess the enveloppe arrived at the official ballot counters office,,,,,,,,                  Charest now listed as winning his riding,..............hahahahahahaha what a schock,.................

Lloyd Robertson on the 11pm CTV news said that means both Charest and Boisclair (the PQ guy) will be out and their parties will want new leaders and Harper will probably call a spring election because he now has a good chance of forming  a majority government.  This guy Dumont (ADQ) voted yes in the last referendum and his party is apparently right of centre and they want to get whatever they can from the feds for Quebec by staying in Canada---that's the only difference between them and the PQ.   Seems Quebecers were tired of the old parties and wanted something new.  Didn't that happen in 1976 when the PQ got elected?   We can't be apathetic because as per usual what happens in Quebec affects the rest of Canada.  The games politicians play!  Stay tuned.   Dolly

Whether you agree with me or not, I truly believe that Quebecers are more prone to (more so than in other provinces) vote "against" someone (or some party) rather than vote "for" someone (or some party). Although some may argue that this type of voter behaviour isn't truly in the spirit of democracy, I believe that the act of voting (regardless of your motives) is not only a right but also your duty!   Earl.

happydi2 MSN said...

Earl I agree with you 100%...voting is a duty and shouldn't be taken for granted...our boys are dying in Afganistan so that the people there can enjoy the same democratic rights we take for granted here...one of the most basic democratic rights is the freedom to vote.....anyone who doesn't vote in this country does not have my respect......   Dianne

happydi2 MSN said...

And people who do not vote have no right to complain .....they had their chance to make a difference, to have their say and chose not to.....   Dianne

sabby MSN said...

What you say Earl is quite true.  I've heard the same thing said in the last federal election...anyone but Chretien...anyone but Martin.    Dolly

earlcooper1 MSN said...

Hey Dianne                   Further on this point........for those who wish not to take part in the voting process, show-up & mark an "X" (nullifying) across the entire ballot!

edbro68 MSN said...

The French are always looking for a good strong leader so they can sit back and leave everything to him or her. (ala Charles DeDaulle). Charest let them down badly. He made promises which would have improved Quebec but did nothing. I am shocked at how he could expect to get reelected. We barely heard his voice the last four years unless he was denying a scandal. I hope he works with Dumont the man seems to have some ideas that weather good or bad will accomplish something. Prices and taxes are high. Incomes are not.               Ed

edbro68 MSN said...

I'd like to add that to be just a steward of the province and return it in the same condition you got it as Charest did.is not good enough  We must move ahead.  Ed

les__f MSN said...

From what I've seen Earl,.Quebec Voters hold no exclusive on Voting 'against someone ' ............it seems that right across the Country ,..Province by Province,..when a party falls from power,.it is because the People Voted Against the party in Power...............BC has been doing this for many years,.(as other provinces) Vote someon Out,........not In ( and if everything is going fine,.we leave them In.......) Most people couldn't tell you 3 separate platforms that any one party stands for............try it during or leading up o an election,.and ask anyone Why they are picking or supporting a certain party,......and it's usually a one dimensional thought,..........Minority Gov'ts have almost always been very good for the People in General,.because the ruling party has to Do things For the People (or they will be thrown out),.......Big Majority's almost invariably Do Nothing (except what lines their party's pockets),...........and they will pass Unpopular ideas ,just because they have the majority,..............   ........but it Definetly is Important to Vote only if you want to have a say or care to have a say,.....................if you don't Vote (you can't complain) I think it's New Zealand (maybe (Austrailia) where it is Mandatory to Vote,..... sort of makes sense ,.but then it's not really democratic is it....................   ......and beware of the party  leaders who say one thing and then don't follow through,.........even our present day PM is waffling on some of his party's early promises,........it's easy to Promise stuff,.....but if you win ,you then should be held accountable to Follow through & implement your promises ,.as that's the reason anyone's elected,............but i'm afraid that the say anything to get elected style of politics ,is with us for a while,........and how about those who get elected in one party,.then 'cross the floor'.........................Ahhhh  Politics ,always somewhat interesting,...................regardless of where.

earlcooper1 MSN said...

You're right, Les                           You can be fined in Australia for not exercising your right to vote.

edbro68 MSN said...

Now comes the question. Will Charest align himself with Dumont who wants to do things and would cooperate to get things done. Or is he going to line up with Boisclair to get his way and do nothing. The pundits are saying he will join  Boisclair but frankly that makes no sense to me.  We'll see.                    Ed
