LevisJeans   I am not sure of the site but the old Forum became Pepsi Forum..they kept some of the red seats and painted the floor like the ice. Complete with crests. Even have the rocket on the bench..people in stands...maybe find it under the name of bldg. They also have multi cinema in there too. Heard the Police are playing 2 shows in summer at Bell Centre.   Lad

Hi levisjeans,............your right the Forum had many concerts for sure,... I have a commeroative book about the Montreal Forum ,that lists aside from every Hockey Game played in their ,but every event held in there,.....dates etc etc ,..............an interesting read Btw  Do you Remember a 'rock concert' (called a Pop Festival in those days) at the old Autostade,....it was prior to Woodstock by a year or so,..and ut was 'billed' as the longest Pop Festival ,ever at the time,.......... the Bands started at around 10 am or Noon,.....in the open air venue of the Autostade,.......and even a very Young band .....maybe you heard of them "The Who"..........hahahaha played can you imagine sharing a stage for 12 hours on & off,.with many other groups that came from all over,.even had Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels  (Devil with a blue dress)......and various other bands,...it ran till midnight.....................one of the MC's was      Dean Hagopian (who was then a DJ for CFOX........when they were a pop/rock station,...........(circa '68 ??) ................

Hi there,
the 1st concert I saw at the Forum was the Beatles. My mom brought me when I was 9 yrs. of course she loved them because she was from Eng. There was a huge crowd outside the Forum and they used a decoy limo so everyone went to that while the Beatles slipped in the back doors.I had a pink party dress on with a big flower in the center of it. YIKES.My mom had such a hard grip on me I thought she'd break my wrist. Once inside, our seats where on the floor but way in the back. The Supremes opened up for the Beatles. I remember trying to take pics but once developed all you could see where the back of peoples heads. At Atwater park there was a huge chair that people were sitting on.Some how I remember Glo Worm sitting on this huge chair.I don't know if it was the day of the concert. Anyways after gettting home, I was so excited while telling the story I spilled vegy soup all over my party dress.Wendy

the bands. I think that was the first time I ever saw anything like
that.

Sorry for the spelling of that park

les__f MSN said...

Yes that's right the   Battle of the Bands,.was always a neat compilation of Montreal area groups ,and a good way to showcase the talents that were around at the time,.Recently (within a few months) some one mentioned that they knew aomeone from The Haunted,.........and the website for the HAunted explained that they had once won a Battle of the BAnds in Montreal........

Lad - I know that we are all diehard Habs fans, are we not?!?  Anyway I have to tell you about the barbershop in Saint John where my husband gets his hair cut.  When you walk in, it's like a Montreal Canadiens museum....he has pennants, autographed photos, etc....but....the 'piece de resistance' is as you walk in the door, there are "2 Montreal Forum RED chairs" with the seat numbers still on them! He bought them years ago when they were for sale from the Montreal Forum.  Is he a champion fan or what!?!?! judy in NB

happydi2 MSN said...

Wow, Judy that is so cool!!! Who would have thought a place like that was in Saint John!   Have you been to Reggies in Saint John?   dianne

newfydog9 MSN said...

My oh my!  What memories!  The first concerts that I went to (with my friend Heather) were the Rock 'n' Roll Revues probably in the early to mid 50's.  In this day and age, if you go to a 'concert', you usually see 1-2 entertainers and it costs 'an arm and a leg'.  Well, way back then, the bus would travel around the country and in ONE SHOW you would see Bill Haley & the Comets, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, the Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly & the Crickets, Richie Valens, the Big Bopper, the Platters, and so many more but I can't remember their names right now and it was probably less than $15.00!!!  Those were the days, my friends...la la la la la la..... judy in NB

les__f MSN said...

Hi Nefydog,.  Judy,......Now I will have to add that Barbershop to a one day visit,........... Sound slike a neat place,........ There are many places like that around the country,.in really obscure areas where someone has built some really neat shrines to the Montreal Canadiens, I have some pics around somewhere of my old house where I had a lot of Habs Stuff re: sweaters, both home& away,...and sticks fromthe Forum ,Lafleur's signed stick,.Larry Robinson's stck ,.a Bobby Smith stick,.a Mark Napier one as well,   I have a plentiful supply of memorabilia from books to a small Habs sweater that I bought at the Forum for my son when he was about 2or3 with his nam,e on the back......hahahahah  Also the cover for my pooltable ,is designed as an exact replica of the ice surface in the old Forum ...blah blah blah'      many signed pics of Yvon C,.Guy L ,..alot of those guys come out here for charity events,.and How's this in the bottom of my brothers swimming pool,I painted a Huge Canadiens CH logo on the bottom,.........it has to be 6'x10' right dead center of the pool,............hahahaha  the pool is 20' x 40' so it's easy to see hahahahahah  Glad to Hear Your Still a Habs Fan................

the lad MSN said...

Hi Les   Habs memories got any pictures?   Lad

Hi Di - Yup - have been to Reggie's a few times over the years. It's just a little 'hole in the wall' but it has "character" as they say. He used to advertize Montreal Smoked Meat and I got all excited thinking of Ben's or something.  What a disappointment when I got this puny little sandwich - definitely NOT a "Montreal" Smoked Meat as WE know them.  I used to get sucked in all the time when I saw  a sign with the MSM sign - but I'm getting better now. When I go to Montreal, I have to have a Smoked Meat platter, a poutine, a hotdog steamé, and some sugar pie....not all at once though....lol.  When I've had my feed of the above, then I know my Montreal visit was a success!!!  It doesn't take much to make me happy - as you can tell. judy in NB

Wow Les - You should take a picture of your brother's pool and show it to us on VC! Now THAT is truly a Habs fan - good for him!!! I have friends in Courtenay.......are you far from there? judy in NB

hanks for posting those pictures of the Autostade. I hadn't seen those particular ones before. You may find it of interest to know that there is a Wikipedia entry on the Autostade.

FYI, I was a former resident of Victoriatown, perhaps better known as "Goose Village." Even after 40 some-odd years, I still find it sad that our homes were demolished to build a temporary sports stadium. Sadly, the only thing that is left to remind one that Victoriatown ever existed is the War Memorial, which was erected by the citizens of Victoriatown--it still stands on the old Canada Packers property on the corner of Mill and Bridge Streets.

I've managed to scrounge a few pictures of the Village here and there, and I've posted them to an account on Sony Imagestation. You can see these, if you're interested, at:

http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4286970363

I've also attached a picture of the Victoriatown War Memorial.
According to my mother, one of the first men killed (Sgt. J.P. Andreaoli) was just prior to Christmas, 1939--he had just gone overseas within the previous 3 months (war was declared in September, and he was killed in December.) Apparently he was a great friend of one of my uncles.

You were so lucky to see those guys perform.
They were a little before my time, however I just love that music.
I was read a book about Sammy Davis jr, he and
Frank Sinatra used to enjoy playing in Montreal. I think it was The Coppa
Cabbana. I should have been born in that era. I miss some of the great
ones!

My big sister who is Glo worm on this site
listened to all that music. Her and her friend went to the Montreal forum to see
Elivis.  Another one I like is Patsy Cline.
