Montreal Area Music

There were alot of groups ,from Montreal,.dating back a long ways ,.
in the 40's & 50's Montreal was considered the Place to go for Big Name (at the time ) musicians,.....they all loved to come to Montreal,...it was a more
accepting city,.and open to many genres of music,.from  jazz & big band & the NightClub Swooners (I think that's what they called them),....
and then into the 60's when names like Bo Diddley came to town ,.and Blues singers mixed into the City with Rock 'N Roll ,bands,.......and many talents of all types of Musice came from Montreal,...then came the 60's .with an incrediblew mix from Motown Sound to Electric Era ..........as well as the carry over from the 50's sound ......the early 60's also had a big Folk Group following,.......with 'artists appearing in the up & coming Coffee House's
(Yes Starbucks had nothing on these places)...even a young Bob Dylan would come to Montreal..but the 60's also produced some incredible (my opinion) Garage Bands,......Remember walking down a laneway & hearing some of the people we went to school with practicing,.and then playing in the local Church Basements Dances,...and the 'Rec Centre',.and the two High Schools ,.VHS & VCHS,.......and of course the DAnces at the 'Y' on Lasalle Blvd.............................and throughout those overlapping years & decades,....the Blues also survived....................................
Man did we all have some fum Growing up in Montreal

What are some of the bands & music you liked ,.or grinded too,  hahahaha

Regardless of Era ,....what were some of your favourite bands or groups??

...............and What Memories are brought to mind for you,.when you Think
of a Certain Song........???
and What are some of those Favourite Songs....?????

 GPilion    Hey Hi yes I
remember Jimmy Oliver . funny you mentioned him . When I was trying to think of
mucicans in Verdun his name came to mind. He married a lady who is aslo an
excellent musian Kat Dycen. I don't think they are still together.
When I was studying at Concordia I lived with a
bunch of musicans. One of them Slyvia Sweeney (Oscar Peterson's niece) Syl
played with Kat.  What a time I had living with those people. I myself
studied Dance at Concordia.and I lived for 4 years with a bunch of crazy
musicans. What a hoot. I was also the one white gal living there. I

Lynn.   Thanks for the info on Jimmy. He was a very talented musician, but I lost contact with him a long time ago. Scott Lang was Penny's brother, and he also was incedibly talented. Think he played/toured with Big Brother for a while.   Great to "hear" about old friends. Thanks again.   Glen

Boyd.   Thanks for the info relative to Jimmy. He was a good guy, and his mother was a very nice lady. I would love to hook up with him again so when I go to Montreal next I will try and track him down.   We played together in Alabaster Villa, with Scott Lang, Garth Russell, John Adams and Ron Gauthier. Did a lot of Y dances and a number of venues in east Montreal, high schools, etc. Some terrific memories....   Glen

Yes Jimmy was our bass player in The Real Deal, with Hawk Francis Hayward and Tim who was from Australia, and yours truly Steve Thomas on Drums. I’m moving back to Montreal on the 29th of November so I’m just reaching out to the musical community thanks! 🥁😎🙏
