Hi Les. I don't remember the actual incident but I was told by my mom that it happened on "grad" night. David Hill was my Uncle Bert's nephew. The accident happened along LaSalle Blvd.

les__f MSN said...

Yes that's the right area MaggieMck,.......I wrote in the 1968 yearbook, beside their names,...and the date was the 27th Sept,......but that seemed odd,as I recall it being theGrad night,as well,....(which I'm certain it was),...but maybe they didn't celebrate it till the brginning of the next school year.??? I'll scan the yearbook and post it later........I can Remember thinking it was quite a big deal to have someone you go to school with die ,........... Unlike now ,.....it holds little surprise.......

I recall that we had the "grad dance" in May (mine was on my 17th birthday) and then we had graduation ceremonies in the fall (after they knew who passed finals). So it being "grad" night in September would make sense. If that was the first death of a schoolmate you experienced, you were lucky (if you can call it that).

Does anyone Remember Buddy Singer,?  he drowned I believe,..I can Remember that he was the first 'body' as a teen that I saw in the Funeral Parlour on Bannantyne ? near was it Argyle roughly.??  I can't Remember exactly where but I do Remember looking at him and it not being Real (whatever that means)......................Strange memory's...

sad ending for some lives ,that had yet begun.....     Remember when we were young, and a year or two in age was an eternity, Seems silly now doesn't it......................I seem to think were four people in the car,....................but that's a long time ago:

Hi ShirleyBH2,......is that Cemetary have a complete listing online? that's pretty neat,..I haven't checked out there site for years,....I guess it's getting more usuer friendly,.......How did you know to check that cemetary? Makes Sense though from Sept 27th accident to Oct 2nd,....what a tragic thing for anyone to have to go through,............. Thanks for that info:

Well I know that the Catholic High Schools in Montral had the grad dance late June but it has also been in May before the exams - not sure if the nuns back then decided that having the dance after the exams everyone could then relax and enjoy enjoy enjoy with no worry about cramming for exams then in September we had the actual graduation ceremony. So thinking that perhaps with a name like Gravel that they could have been Catholic I took a chance and bingo.

I graduated from Marymount High School in 1964 and our grad dance was in September. It was held at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel. The grad ceremony was in June after exams but before the diplomas arrived in the mail.   Dianne

happydi2 MSN said...

Rainy day man.... just one thing, a classy broad like me didn't get drunk on her grad night....and I probably would have gotten a rebate on the limo if we went to the grad dance by limo back in the day!!!!   Rebate Queen

Yes there was a Timmy Cunningham.   Remember he broke his arm in high school gym class using the sringboard & trying to jump over the horse one evening.   Went to grade school & high school with him - lost touch.

gorderic MSN said...

I remember when I tried one of those vaults at Woodland School in Boenke's class - flew right over the end of the horse and landed on my head. I was lucky I did no break my neck. My 72 lb spotter stood there like a deer facing headlights and watched my fly by. Boenke commented that I was quite flexible.   Gord Gibbons Brampton, Ontario
