This article wich appeared in a newspaper called The Canal Express dated Summer 1998 reports an incidence wich happened on August 2nd 1931 whereby the Rapids Prince crashed into lock No. 2 in the Lachine canal causing a gush of water down to lock no. 1. Luckily there was no loss of life. The original article appeared in the August 3rd 1931 Herald. I recall when the same boat got stuck in the Lachine rapids around 1946.

Interesting story Guy,............. There are plenty of pictures of steamers sailing down through the Rapids,... We used to have an album with a bunch of those pics in too,.....but we can find them again......That would have been an exciting trip,in such alarge boat.................................................

You're right guy. The Rapid Prince got stuck on the rocks around 1946. Iwas around ten. My Father's friend drove us to "Four Towers' which I think all Verdunites know is the beginning of the Aqueduct. It was sitting mid river directly across from there.
The Rapid Prince became obsolete when the Mercier bridge was built. It's main duty previously was crossing from Lachine to the South shore. It ran for a while after as a pleasure boat shooting the rapids. It ran from Lachine to the Latortue wharf and it's southe shore landing opposite. Returning upriver by the Lachine Canal Unfortunatley no insurance company was interested in such a riske venture. The other boat was the "Prince of Wales'. Ed
