Black Irish

Great Pilot TV show played Monday night and will replay on Thursday. I heard the term Black Irish ever since I was a kid, and never knew what it meant.
This show has Canadian roots. Now I know why my father had Black hair and blue eyes.

• Actress Lauren Graham is referred to as Black Irish in a celebrity profile.[16]
• In the pilot to NBC's new television series The Black Donnellys, Joey "Ice Cream", one of the mainstay characters (portrayed by actor Keith Nobbs) narrates the action drama and at one point indirectly refers to himself and unspecified Donnelly brothers as Black Irish. Joey cites a story told by his grandmother asserting that Ireland was originally inhabited by a 'dark haired race of people' who the invading Celts attempted to unsuccesfully wipe out.

Watched the show, was not impressed as the person was reading the actions from a jail cell. Also in the paper here there was a reference to the show of a Canadian family in the late 1800's named same and were killed...

Hi. i replied to your post before nothing came out. After i posted today i looked for that book didn't find anything yet. Also i checked on EBAY under books and The Donnellys there are a few listings if i remember correctly mine was different i have a large attic i will check there tomorrow. In the last several months there was a reconstruction of the events and trial by Ont. investigators on the history chan. It was interesting.

If you want a good show with Canadian connections check 'Jericho' on CBS Wednesday evening.  It has a different flavour and is not all about sex and love affairs. One of the main characters is played by a Canadian from Toronto. 18 year old Erik Knudsen plays a teen named Dale on the show. I used to watch him as a boy on YTV. (I mean when he was a boy not me.) On a show called Mental Block. My grandaughter was mad about him. We watched every episode in reruns over and over and over and.......... Anyway she finally got interested in some one else and was off the hook. However in the meantime, I was surprised at his acting ability. He has since starred in 'Saw II' and now this.
