Not from Verdun, But...

hey everyone...
I`ve been a member for a little bit..and have read almost all posts on here ..very interesting little site you all have goin on here.

My name is Rena..and I am not from Verdun..but My mom has hung out in verdun, and when she was in high school.she went to the old Argyle School ( verdun high I believe it was called.)

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone knew my mom...her Name is Kathleen Holland, She used to live on Egan, Across the the bridge on Woodland.
She had younger siblings (george, peter,John,Trisha,Anne,Tracey,Chris, and Robbie) all of whom went to the same school also.

I am just really curious to know who my mom hung out with and what she used to do and stuff, especially since she hasn`t told me anything, not that she doesn`t want to, just hat she doesn`t really talk much about High school . or any other time for that matter.

She also used to live somewhere around the brault street area.

if anyone could give me any info on my mom or her brothers and sisters, I would greatly appreciate it.

thanks guys and have a great one :)

Hi Rena,   I did find Hollands that lived on Egan in Ville Emard in the 1960 Lovells Directory. George Holland (foreman  Cummings Motors Ltd) 1595 Egan Ave  PO7-7553 and Emma (widow Hubert) 1585 Egan Ave. I wonder if they were related or just a coincidence. I have attached the Lovells entries. If the pictures posted are of your mum I was at VHS during that time and she might remember me.               Gary Mace Saanich, BC   1045 Valiquette & 920 Moffat Verdun

If this is the right person, I think they may have lived in Ville Emard.  If so, then she would have gone to Connaught School (Gr. K-7) which was on Laurendeau Blvd. in Cote St.Paul.  Below is a picture of Connaught School.  This door was the Girls Entrance.

Hi Linda ,...where did you find that picture of Connaught School,..... and do they ever look similar to just about every grade school in Verdun too: I Remember trying to find a picture for you a few years ago,.and met with no success...........................I see you too Never Give Up ,,,,,   Never Ever Give Up,..............that's a real Montreal Trait...hahahahaha

Mom 45...you rock...that`s my mom clear as a bell...She still looks the same, without the glasses and poofy hair though lol. thats amazing, I have never seen her class pictures before !!.   Arbutus...yes, George is my grandfather.....my moms dad...and Emma I believe would be my great aunt who was married to my grandfathers brother..he passed away pretty early in age.    they still live there and it is my great aunt, my grandfathers sister who originally owns that house...I go by all the time.    yes, my mom did live at the residence mom 45...in ville emard, and yes she did go to that elementary, I know this because they changed it into an alternative school and I went there for 2 years for HS.  Mom told me they didn`t change it much when she came to see me..mind you that was about ten years ago.   Les, if you want more pictures of connaught, I am sure I have some from when I went there for hs...I can try and find some, to scan and send to you.   thanks so much guys, you were all really wonderful in helping me...hope to learn more :))

I went to Connaught before we move to Verdun and then went to Riverview. Moved from Anger to Valiquette around 1956. Makes me think of Claudia Rourke-Frew from Ville Emard. I think her Dad was a custodian at VHS.   Gary Mace Saanich, BC   Valiquette / Moffat

Rena,   Great to know we were all able to contribute. I take it you're still in Montreal - is your mum still in Montreal. You should tell her about VC and get her to join and visit with us. I know she'd find a lot of her old friends here and without a doubt make some new ones. Plus a life time of memories.   Gary Mace   Saanich, BC

I love finding things out. especially about History and where I come from....it never ceases to amaze me..not one bit.       thanks again guys, your awesome.

Rena,   My name was Linda Noble, lived on Briand Street in Ville Emard, attended Connaught School from 1950-1957 then to Verdun High from 1958-1962.   Yup you  can still do things the hard old-fashioned way, but hey, then you wouldn't meet nice folks like the members here.  There are probably a gazillion people she would know on here.   At any rate, sure glad you joined!  p.s. If you do find pics of Connaught I would really appreciate seeing them also.   Cheers.

 Hi
Just thought I would send this along to you.   Peter went to VHS at the same time and was in some of my classes.  I thought he was a really nice boy - nobody special - just nice.
Also the Rourke Frew girls,  Emily and Fay  but they were a year older I believe. Laurie Etienne

Rena,   Let her wander through the messages and photo albums on the board, and perhaps she might give a thought to joining.  I'm sure she has some photos tucked away that we would love to see, and input that she could share with us.   See the computer isn't all doom and gloom.  Sometimes good things happen!   Cheers.

Hi  Wendythepool What year did you graduate in, and I will see what I can do. In the meantime - there are a few albums photographed on Yahoo's  Verdunprotestanthighschool, done by Ernie Loiselle. It is  quite a good site but not as  interactive as this one.  Let me know please.   Laurie  Etienne

I left VHS in 73  just before graduation I had
a job waiting for me at the Bank of Montreal Head Office. So I would be in the
class pictures. I did have a slot for my grad pic but I never put it in the
annual.
Thanks for asking

Lynn, I just looked in the 73 yearbook. There you are in homeroom # 102 along with Don Thompson, Steven Tierney, Tim Law, Maggie Low, Dougie Imms, etc. There is also an M. Liddell there. Any relation to BIM? Sorry, my scanner is not operational right now. I'll scan when it is up and running again.
