Back to the Boardwalk

Going through my files I came apon these photos of the boardwalk wich may have appeared previously. Upon examination of the older top photo, it is the original wooden boardwalk wich ends abruptly. The caption mentions that part of the dam was erected in 1916 and the photo is probably of that period. The bottom photo is more currant although taken before the big changes took place.

The picture's we posted are great this is a real
treat for me
to see how the boardwalk looked back then. When I
was a kid we would go for a drive along trhough crawford park laSalle, keep
driving till we got to this very tiny church I don't remember were it was. The
water ran right along side the road then.
Living in North Bay now I often walk along the
water. I call it the board walk. The locals around here look at me kinda
strange.
One of the major factors for me moving here is the
water
Lake Nipissing is huge . Not the mighty St
Lawerence,but
very nice.
Thanks again  Lynn

Here is even an older photo of the " boardwalk", that probably dates back to the early 1900s wich was originally called a dike and had a dirt walking area. Notice the steps leading up to the top. Here is the translation:                                            DIKE   The promenade now recessed from the river, of wich the citizens still profit, is none other than the dike finished in the 1920s, to contain the rising water wich ocurred regularly in the spring.   Guy
