Police and Fire Station 1940-41

The enclosed photo is dated 1940-1941 from the SHGV Archives. We are trying to identify the location. I know that there was a Station on Church and on LaSalle Boul. One of our members says that it may have been on Verdun Ave. on the corner of Beatty. Can anyone help us on this.

The fire station in the Beatty?Verdun area was 2 stories. Looking at this picture makes me wonder if the Fire Station/Police Station at Rielle and LaSalle was replaced at some time and this would be the original.

Did one of those fire engines end up in Richard Parc? (behind the station)

Maggie, I was thinking of that possibility since the present Fire Station on LaSalle Blvd is larger and perhaps replaced the smaller one shown on the photograph. Guy

Hello   Guy ,.......good find on those Verdun pictures,....I know I could be busy searching SHGV archives for days,...and finding all these neat old pictures,.....that Fire Station,is interesting ,because it looks like it could be the one on Lasalle Blvd at Rielle ,.......but the buildings design is definetly different from, the old station I Remember (before it's revamp again in the 60's to that more modern look of big glass doors) I Remember it being a combined Fire/Police Station,.......with big wooden doors,..and a courtyard like place behind the building (Boardwalk side),..as kids we would look over the Police Stations fence (to see what we could see I guess) no other reason I can think of other than us kids spying & keeping an eye on the cops for a (change) insted of vice-versa..............hahahahaha Thanks for the pictures Guy.........

21-10-43      that's the date on the picture I posted of the building as I Remember it,.......so based on the dates of your photo,..and this photo, maybe they did a big Renovation,...and simply built onto the old structure,..... They must have had to enlarge the garage portions ,just to keep up with the changing sizes of the Fire Trucks at the time,......... then another renovation in the 60's would have enlarged it again,to give us those big glass panelled doors, where we could readily see the Firetrucks, always seemed like an impressive thing (at least when I was a kid,......but I have to admit, when a Firetruck screams by nowadays,.I still have to have a look at it)................................(never grow up I guess)........hahahahah

Les-F, Look at the bottom of the doors with the white panels in the up position in my photo, they look the same as the ones shown on your photo except the doors are in the closed position. Both photos are of the same period so this is the same building. Also the bottom of the pillars are the same. Guy

Back in the mid-1970's I was at work and got a call about 9 am  from Bronx Park School, saying he hadn't arrived yet.  I dashed home and was met by a house fire down the street, and wouldn't you know it, there's my son (7 years old) just giving the firetruck a good once over.  When I asked him why he didn't go to school, he said he was learning about how firetrucks worked!!!!  School be damned as he didn't even give it a second thought.    And....the answer is NO he didn't become a fireman.   Cheers.

The station looks like the one on Lasalle just east of where Leblanc rented his boats, about the corner of Rielle. We used to go there to buy our licence for our bikes. The other one on Verdun was on the corner of Verdun and Osborne

The fire station shown is the one on LaSalle when the police station was in the City Hall building on Eglise. When City Admin was moved to Verdun Avenue  the LaSalle fire station was moved upstairs to accomodate the police below. This is the only building that had four doors. The one on Verdun and Osborne had only two and was closed shortly after the LaSalle building was renovated. Sorry I took so long to come back on this, I've been very ill.                   Ed

Actually John, It started with an arthritic attack. Rheumatoid Arthritis is a disease that attacks the immune system when it gets out of control so naturally with the immune system weakened, the flue moved in. It is going around here. Thanks for asking. Ed

I took the enclosed pictures this morning as I wanted to see what happened to the old fire station that was on Verdun Ave. It is still there at the corner of Osborne and was converted to commercial use after it moved to LaSalle Boul. Guy

Great shots Guy. I notice they always keep the old towers when they renovate these buildings. Most haven't been used since the sixties when they stopped hanging hoses to dry.     Ed
