another article re: Park Av,......found in todays Gazette as well, is Gerald Tremblay just running the city  at will with no input from the people ??  I live a block from the street today and am staring at it now across Jeanne Mance Park (once Fletcher's Field). Park Ave. is me - and I'm one of tens of thousands of passionate Park-lovers who are sputtering in disbelief this week. Many will gather at 2 p.m. today to protest at the foot of Mount Royal. Yes, I know it's just a street, but it's a street with 123 years of history - a gathering place for generations of people who hear the word "Park" and conjure up 1,000 memories. the above was a small piece from the complete column: http://www.canada.com/montrealgazette/news/story.html?id=efd407ab-1cc9-412f-82bd-ed7b9a4dbe17&k=70367   I really don't get it ,why do they have to change the name of streets ,that have been around for hundreds of years,................I still call that 'other' street Dorchester,..........and always will,.................... I think they could have a 'Special Park'  just for statues of politicians gone by,......That way Birds could do to them ,what most of them did to their constituents,.................hahahahahah  They realy are a 'self serving bunch of (-----               --        -              -----        -            -        ) well I'll let you 'fill in the blanks..................hahahahaha

The city's Intercultural Council, an advisory body, meets tomorrow to decide its position on the proposed name change. Photograph by : PIERRE OBENDRAUF, THE GAZETTE Published: Wednesday, November 01, 2006 In a dramatic about-face yesterday, all of Mayor Gerald Tremblay's councillors in Plateau Mont Royal borough, including the borough mayor, declared they oppose their leader's plan to rename Park Ave. and Bleury St. as Robert Bourassa Ave. With pressure mounting from Park Ave. merchants, local residents and a growing number of online petition signatories from across the city, the six members of the Montreal Island Citizens Union party in the Plateau wasted little time heeding Tremblay's promise this weekend to allow his councillors a free vote on the name change when it comes to city council on Nov. 27   .....Read the whole story here (if you like) http://www.canada.com/montrealgazette/news/story.html?id=0dfed0b3-8abc-484e-a6bb-7988a4462fae&k=75984 .............................I hope the people are successful, and eventually have their wishes honoured........................
