Corner Brault and LaSalle

Carolyn, is this the Alepin House you were talking about. The picture was taken with my back to the river. Brault is on the left. A lot of new houses are under construction on this intersection. Guy

Guy that house is fantastic,...and it sure looks well maintained,.......what a strudy old building ,.with character,.......   I always Remember the big long white house on Lasalle Blvd just as you entered Lasalle from Verdun,..the rumour was that it had a swimming pool in it,....i believe one owner was a fellow from Dominion Bridge ( an executive / management guy) it was an impressive house,.....but the last time I was through that way all along Lasalle Blvd,....there were some very expensive looking houses going up ,......and they had moved Lasalle Blvd (further towards the golf course area).........but pretty much all the way to lachine there were some nice buildings going up   Thanks for the Pictures ,.it makes it very easy to visualise walking by that area(the one in Verdun)........................................have fun & Remember Verdun

Carolyn and Les-F, This is definitely the corner of Brault and LaSalle. Around the corner and across the street to the left are new buildings. Could the Alepin house be at another corner ? Guy

On pages 193 and 194 in the book Histoire du Village des Rapides one can see 2 pictures of the Alepin House in Ville de LaSalle. The house is similar to the description given by Les (Ref.: Corner Brault and LaSalle, message No 5, Sent: 29/05/2006 10:23 PM) Histoire du Village des Rapides UN QUARTIER DE LASALLE Denis Gravel M챕ridien Montr챕al, (1992) ISBN 2-89415-107-1

Thanks JMH for the ISBN and info on the book by Denis Gravel,..I have just requested an inter-library loan, from my local library,.and so I look forward to reading this book,....... the house I'm talking about was very recognizable, being a long (almost rancher style) all white brick ,.....was right on the curve near Alepin would be my guess it was one of the first houses as you entered Ville Lasalle,....I will look it up on a map as it could have been as you near LaCharite, but I don't think so,I believe Alepin would be closer................again Thanks for the info .........................................................................................................HF&RV

In a rapid search in Lovell, I’ve found many members of the Alepin family living at 5859 Lasalle Blvd, Verdun, btwn 1940-50. Many of them related to the Lasalle Golf & Country Club, 8585 Lasalle Blvd, Ville Lasalle. There were many members in the Alepin family some of them living in Verdun, Ville Lasalle, Montr챕al. 5859 Lasalle Blvd, Verdun is located at the intersection of Richard Ave.   JM

Hi Les ! Your analysis was pretty accurate ... Around 1891, the four Penniston brothers built a two-storey house at 7525 Lasalle Blvd: this house is known today as la Maison Penniston / Penniston House. The Penniston house was later bought by the Alepin family. (Book of Denis Gravel, p. 119) Location of 7525 Lasalle Blvd, Ville Lasalle:   *** Maison Penniston/Penniston House: http://www11.ville.montreal.qc.ca/cmspvs/fr/cpm/fichiers_cms/publications/rapport_dec_2004-versionfinale.pdf *** Histoire du Village des Rapides UN QUARTIER DE LASALLE Denis Gravel M챕ridien Montr챕al, (1992) ISBN 2-89415-107-1 JM

Les & JM. Hachey ,,,,,,,re : the house that Les described in Ville LaSalle at the end of Crawford park...at one time it was owned by the fellow that designed the MERCIER Bridge. One of it's distinguishing eatures was that it had a complete professional bowling alley in the basement.....

Further info on the Alepin family ...they were one of the most prolific developers in Ville LaSalle as well as verdun......
Their grandest development I believe may have been all the land which at one time was the Golf Course ......

Also one of less prolific relatives , who lived on Manning near LaSalle Blvd .....in the 1980's , built all the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants in Quebec......

They were a very industrious family .....

Lucky you are ! At the same occasion, would it be possible to take a shot of Penniston House (which was once property of the Alepin), located at 7525 Lasalle Blvd. Thanking you in advance, JM
