Hello Miles                   Growing up (in the 70's) in verdun & playing minor league hockey, I was always interested in it's history. I was sure that Martha Liddell & Norman Dawe were probably actual people who played an integral part in Verdun's hockey history. I now know that Martha Liddell was your grandmother. As a matter of general interest,  I'm eager to learn more about both individuals & their stories.   Thanks, Earl Cooper.

Norman Dawe - now there is a name from the past. We lived on Manning near Brown Blvd and spent many days at the outdoor rink at Norman Dawe Park, in the playground, or playing ball.  Does anyone remember when the city would turn on a giant sprinkler right on the street from a water hydrant so the kids could play in it on those steamy summer days - great delight - circa 1948-1950. Great info BIM!                          Although I was never good enough to make any of the Martha Liddell teams, I still thoroughly enjoyed playing hockey in the Norman Dawe "house-leagues". These "Pioneers" of Verdun history should never be forgotten & it's because of folks like yourself that help keep their memory & importance alive. Blair Mackasey jr actually taught me how to stop (left-side) properly in the mid 70's @ hockey school. Since my Dad & myself were big fans of Junior hockey, we were fortunate enough to follow the careers of Kevin Reeves, Jimmy Mann, Denis Savard, Ray Bourque, Steve Kasper, the entire Wrigley winning team, etc. I've also been fortunate to attend many of the Verdun reunions in Toronto every year. Along with a lot of beer, many great stories are also consumed every 1st Friday of every December @ the Strathcona.   P.S. Speaking of Chuck Liddell, I hope your MMA crazy like me.   Proud Verduner, Earl.

Hey BIM, some other "notable names" that went on to further their careers after NDMHA are Bobby Bindon, Gary Butler, Bruce Mullett, Jimmy Webster and Guy Charron.   dc

Hi,

I was just wondering if my uncle, Jimmy Peters, was involved in the Norman Dawe leagues. He went on to play for the Canadiens, Detroit, and I believe Pittsburg.

If anyone has any information about him while he was still a youngster in Verdun, I'd greatly appreciate it.
