Daisydewdrop. Ruth I lived at 835 3rd Avenue. My brother was Hartland (Bumpy). I think Bumpy and Art were friends. I lived there till 1960, my Mom till 1966 when she passed away. And Bumpy lived there just a little longer. Winston Allison

Hi Daisydewdrop,   Are you sure of the address that you lived at on Third Avenue? My wife lived at 844 Third Avenue and she cannot remember any of your siblings. The Hopwood Jones' lived at 846 Third Avenue. My wife moved in 1966 when we got married.   Reggie Paine

I remember well that Bumpy and Art were friends.  I was friends with your brother Frank.   Connie (Coleman)   BTW Winston is my uncle and Bumpy (who passed away in 1995) was also.

I winston,   Yes I remember bumpy, he and art were friends. I remember them hanging out in front of the house. The Hopwood-Jones are my cousins, they lived at our old address before us but moved to Granby in about '57. Did you know Harry Jones, Judy or Claudia?   The forsyths lived across the street closer to bumpy's place and the bordeaux's lived underneith you. We were also friends with the boulays and browns who lived further down the street. We also lived at 846 on Third ave.

Hi Daisydewdrop,   My wife Maureen Gill lived at 844 Third Avenue until we were married in 1966. She cannot remember you or your brothers. I used to go to school with Harry and Judy and I did know Claudia was their sister. Their dad was transferred to Granby with Simonds Saw Co. in 1957 and I guess you took over their place on Third. You are a lot younger than Maureen and maybe that is why she cannot remember you. I was transferred to Toronto in 1974 and we lived in Scarborough - Brimorton Drive(Markham Road and Ellesmere) and then moved to Pebblewood Ave (McCowan and Steeles). Nice to hear from you and do you ever hear from the Jones? Please let us know.   Reggie Paine

Hi Winston,   I was speaking with Art this evening and mentioned your name. He does remember you and Connie. He spoke very highly of your Mother how she was a wonderful woman. When we lived at 846 our block was engulfed in a fire one January night, and my sister June said how your mom fed the firemen coffee all night long while they were putting out the fire from the flat above us. Those were just some of the kind things she used to do. Ruth

Hi Reggie,   Yes I remember the Gill's they lived right next door to us, Patty and my brother Frankie were good friends. I also use to play with the younger brother Kevin I think his name was. However I don't remember Maureen, maybe she was just busy with life that I never saw her, I was only 7 at that time. But Frank was 15 and Art was 19. She should ask Patty if he remembers Frank I'm sure he will. Most of my family still lives in Montreal, I moved to Toronto in'82 and then to Scarborough in'91 port union and lawrence area. Judy and Claudia are both married with children and live in Laval. Harry lives in Brome, his wife passed away a few years ago suddenly. The rest of the Jones are across the country.Anyways let me know if Patty remembers Frank.   Ruth

Hi Daisydewdrop,   Paddy who now lives in Vancouver(32 years) does know Frankie and Art. I spoke to him today as he called Maureen for her birthday. As stated in my previous message Maureen is quite a few years older than you and she still doesn't remember you.Nice to hear about the Jones' but sorry about Harry's wife. Please send our regards to them all. I told Paddy to join Verdun Connections. I think he would enjoy it and it certainly brings back old friends and memories. Jackie Boulay visits Paddy quite often in BC   Reggie Paine   PS I don't know if I mentioned this but we now live in London,Ontario.

Rainy day man 44. My brother Bumpy got his name from a friend of my mothers. Her name was "Auntie Mary" Markham. The use to live on Bannantyne, near Argyle many years ago. Hartland was always falling down and bumping himself. SOOOOOOOO Auntie Mary said; "We should call him Bumpy".Needless to say, but the name stuck. Our whole family, including my niece Connie who is also on the site, called him Bumpy, even to this day. He has been gone since 1995. He died of a heart attack. He was 50 years old. Winston Allison

daisydewdrop. Ruth good to hear from you. Please say hello to Art for me. I had an 8mm movie camera and took some pictures of Bumpy, Art, and some other of their friends in our living room. I had it converted to VHS. Art was a very nice handsome young man and always was dressed very nicely.  I always like Art. Winston

Hi Winston,   Wow you have video's of art and bumpy? I would be very very interested in getting a copy from you if you don't mind, if you can (no pressure). Let me know how much and I will sent you a  cheque. I would like to surprise Art with it, I'm sure it would bring back a flood of good memories for him. I know when Bumpy died Art was taken back for awhile, after all you always think your friends will live to be the same old age as you, or at least close to it.   Ruth

Bumpy's passing was very quick and at a very young age for sure.  He happened to be living with my husband and I in Calgary at the time.............walked out the door early in the morning........said had a good day......and about 2 hours later I got the call at work that they  found him deceased on the floor of his office (he was always the first to arrive).  It was hard on everyone in the family because it was so unexpected but at least he did not suffer and for that we have to be thankful..   The video that Winston made is great.........I usually take it out once or twice a year to look at it   Connie (Coleman)

Hello Verdunites.Past and Present   I am June Broniszewski....846 - 3rd Ave............Been looking around in here and it is great memories....See that my sister has related some of the names I remembered.. Sorry to hear about Bumpy..Winston......I have a little story about him and my brother Frank..Bumpy came home from work and was wearing a nice bright white shirt..Frank went up to him and squirted his white shirt with ink....well Bumpy looked at his shirt and chased Frank around the street...caught him and pointed at his shirt.. that by this time was nice a clean and white again...Bumpy couldn't believe his eyes, he was fuming mad...but the ink had dried and was invisible ink..lucky for Frank.. everyone watching had a good laugh....I recongnized most of the names from 3rd so far...some a little older than myself and some I went to school with...I came back to Verdun 20 years ago...Its' home to me...Every couple of years I take a walk down 3rd...then over to the park or rink on 1st ave..just for the memories...Some things have changed, not everything....Sankas' is gone, no more candy store...After John and Mary left Sankas', Marys' brother Paul took over for awhile..I think...Now Paul is director of Wilsons'.....I've seen John and Mary a few times, they live in LaSalle.. Ran into Sankas' eldest daughter Olga a few times at the Montreal General Hospital. She was Head Nurse up there at one time...Oh well...memory lane eh?  Nice though Talk to everyone again soon...when I can remember some more about  3RD AVE.   Take care all....June

Hi daisydewdrop, I have been trying to place your family but can't seem to put faces to the names. Did your brother Frank join the police force? I believe you said you hung around with Darlene Vardon did you also know her brother Gerald? Did you live in a bottom flat?  Nothing like 50 questions.  Danny

daisydewdrop MSN said...

Hey DannyB,   No Frank was just a rebel, he hung around with Patty Gill and Jean-Louie Roy both from 3rd ave,  the Fagan brothers (charlie) from 4th ave. and Bob Mcartney from egan ave. My grandmother also lived across the street from us, Mrs Rolfe. We did live on the bottom flat across the street from the Alison's and the Forsyths and next door to the Gills. The Lesourers lived down the street, along with the Browns and the Bouleys, and the Floods. Mr Roy had a man's clothing store on Verdun ave for years, maybe still does. I went to Banantyne school with Darlene Varden, I vagely remember her brother gerald.I mostly hung around with Cathy Fagan, before me moved to Lasalle, after our flat went on fire Jan '65. My oldest brother Arthur married Darlene Diamond also from Verdun.

Hi Harleygirl, You mentioned Tahamont. There was Winston and John Tahamot (or however it's spelled)  Then there is Winston Allison who lived closer to Bannantyne (he can vouch for that)  my brother & I Wayne and Sandra Carlin lived at 818 3rd from birth to about 1954 then we moved to Allard. What relation are you to Peter Lazure,? Please give him my best. I saw Peter and Michael Lazure back in about 1992 when I visited my Dad in Montreal. Susie Hibbard lead me into this shop (over the Mercier bridge) that Peter & Michael ran. I hadn't seen either of them since 3rd avenue, which would be appox. forty years ago then....I didn't know who they were until my pal Susie introduced me!!  We all changed after 40 odd years ago. It was great to see them both once again.   cookie
