Walking from Galt and Bannantyne to the Nat and back, we even walked to the chalet on the mountain and back, the boardwalk, watching the movies at Woodland park and at the park at the corner of Bannantyne near Hickson, swimming in the Lachine canal, picnicking on Nun's Islang. Guy

I think Steve knows where Nun's Island is, it's Nun's Islang that's the puzzle.

I wonder if they still use the baskets for your personal items, with the locker tag and the safety pins at the nat. I remember having to give the basket to the guy at the counter. I never had anything stolen from the staff, but I can only imagine if anyone ever has.   Mike

Was this the Mike Stevens who spun records on CJAD's Club 800?

Walking or biking to the Nat to swim the entire afternoon and sometimes again in the evening, when it seemed the water was warmer and it was magical when the lights came on!   Walking and biking the boardwalk from end to end, cycling through Douglas Hospital grounds (sneaking in of course, since it was totally fenced at that time) and trying to set off the patients (how bad was that??? LOL).   Walking out to get smoked meat and fries at the place (name escapes me) on Lasalle Blvd. & 4th(?) Ave in Lasalle.  It's not there anymore -- looks like it's been turned into an office or duplex of some sort.   Going to Expo 67 all summer with a season's pass...imagine letting your kids take off now to ride the buses and subway over to an island and letting them roam around all by themselves (with friends) for the entire day or evening?!  I think I was 14 at the time.  Seems incredible to me now, looking back, that my parents would allow me to do that!   Anyone remember going to Plattsburgh Beach for a Saturday or Sunday and the line-ups at the border going down and coming back?  Remember smuggling stuff across the border after a day of shopping down there?  We found all kinds of hiding places in the car, under clothes, bottoms of purses, etc.  My dad even hid things under the hood on top of the wheel wells on occasion!!!  We did get caught once around Christmas time, however, and my sister and I were sure my dad was going to jail and we would be stranded at the border with my mom, who did not drive!!  It's funny looking back, but was not amusing at the time as I recall...

Country girl, could the place you got your smoked meat have been called "Adam's? I seem to remember one named that around that area. I went to Plattsburgh Beach a few times myself as a kid and came across the border wearing THREE LAYERS of clothes hahaha ( But it's hottttttttttttttttttttttt, Mommmmmmmmm!)

Geez 32 and sunshine today, 33 tomorrow, remember those days, the Nat was full , used to wait for water trucks to come along and run beside them , phew its hot , JIm

Nope no more baskets at the Nat. They have those small lockers (like Gadbois swimming pool in C-S-P had, for those who know Gadbois...which is still there too) to put your belongings in that you have to pay to get the key. By the way...NO MORE DIVING BOARDS AT ALL at The Nat!!! I couldn't believe it! They've taken them all out. They still have the deep end but it's for swimming only. Ugh again...progress!

Yup, hot here in Virginia too, Jim! If it gets too much I can always go up to the barn and fill up one of the 200 gallon water troughs and have a soak haha I'm JOKING! It's awful tempting sometimes tho I tell ya. Hey Kungfu! Are you the same Jim I am thinking of? Could I have possibly sat on your lap in the back of a crowded van on the way to one of those impromptu hockey game at 5 o'clock one morning? LOL! Does the name Barry's Bums ring any bells?

Ahem, just thought I'd clarify that the afore-mentioned incident with the lap in the van happened over 25 years ago hahaha. Heh. UGH.
