Another bank gone......

I had a Doctors' appointment in Verdun yesterday and drove along Wellington.  It seems the CIBC on the corner of Galt & Wellington has skipped town.  Has a For Rent or For Sale sign in front.  Not many banks left in Verdun.
I also drove up Gordon........ya know that little church beside the old YMCA north of Bannantyne is also gone.  Just a big hole there.  I'll bring my digital camera next time I'm there.

Bob, that's why we switched to the credit union here in Sackville N.S. They have plenty of tellars, a drive up tellar so you don't have to go in, never a lineup, If you want to be mod, you can also use atm, plus they are open late every day and half a day on saturday. Patsy Ginn Ernst

I live in Calgary and have worked for "Scotiabank" for 18 years   #1 in customer service 5 years running and also made one of the 50 best companies to work for.   Not all banks suck.

I agree with you Princess! I've had an account with Scotiabank on Wellington Street for over 25 years and STILL do even tho I'm a permanent resident of the US. .

I have been dealing with the TD bank for over 30 years and have been very pleased with their service. The Bank of Montreal however is a different story. I have had poor service from 3 branches that I have tried: Beatty and Verdun, Windsor Station, and Deux Montagnes. The B.O.M. is B.U.M. in my opinion.             mpu

We now have TD here in Massachusetts as well. They have bought out
BankNorth & it is now renamed to TD BankNorth with the traditional green
& white colors. They have been buying up smaller banking chains and are
starting to become a player in the finance game.

I'm with you Ralph & Alan.  I switched from the Royal Bank to the TD Canada Trust 3 years ago.  TD is starting to become a player in the US now. After 15 years at the Royal I was fed up with their mistakes, errors and lousy staff.  BTW.....you CAN negotiate with the banks.  If you have a mortgage, Retirement accounts or deposits, you can negotiate low or no fee chequing, free gold cards and free safety deposit boxes. I never use my debit card anymore,  just Visa. It sure cuts down on the fees.   It just depends how much you have and how far they are willing to bend.  Pssttt........I recommend the TD stock as a buy instead of deposits for long term gains and potential merger.  I read this morning that the CIBC Bank is on the hook for $2.4 Billion for their part in the Enron scandel.  Glad I didn't buy their stock.  While I'm at it, alot of people complain about the price of gas (me too!) and how they gouge the public.   Ever think about owning some stock?  Imperial Oil is a well run company and has a buy recommendation.  Ya think I should start a new thread???  Mac.

I noticed a Wells Fargo bank in Sherbrooke last week.   And my husband noticed a sign for AON which is his British pension administrator.    About buying stock - by now the Commerce bank stock should have taken a good hit and it may be a buy now.
