I've been trying to get info about relatives buried in Mt.Royal Cemetary, however when you click on to get the page required to enter info, it says the page is not available. Any ideas on how to get around this? Anywhere else to go?

Ps: This site is monitored but not actively posting on a regular basis. Mostly these are stories & some photos saved from a defunct site known as Verdun Connections which was on MSN Groups initially then on a social network called Multiply.

Is the cemetery at Cote des Neiges have a web site to browse
through? My Irish Catholic relatives are buried there going back to
1900 I think.

That would be great if they have every single burial recorded for

Hi Bill, In the link that I listed you can go under the heading Services and there is a section for Locate a Deceased fill in the form and you will find all that have been buried there under that name and it will give you the plot number and all information as to who bought the plot and all who have been buried in it. I have used it many times. You do not have to have all information asked. Danny

I do searches all the time on Cote des neiges for free if you want to pay someone $40 an hour for what you can do in 10 minutes well what can I say - if you make $80 an hour at your job you may not have a problem paying someone else $40 eh?

Art - I found that using the least amount of information worked best - for instance I am looking for James Doyle husband of Eliza Groves - if I use that I might get nothing but just doing James Doyle oh and 1946 lets say brings up my grandfather but if I type in Eliza Groves and put my grandfather's name James Doyle I may get nothing since she died after and I dont know if she is listed as his widow = sometimes the spouse's name is a hinderance because if she died first or he first it may not be listed so the damn computer is looking for a match.

hi art, when you enter the name under search threr were no results for my parents uncles or cousins, this has prompted my husband to search with still no results. next on the agenda is a trip to montreal this summer to check it out. patsy
The Jewish cemeteries are not so well known as they are on the northeastern side of Mount Royal (accesible from Forest Road, I believe it is called. Forest Road is in turn accessible from Mount Royal Avenue where it ends at its western limit (before it climbs the mountain as the Camillien Houde Parkway.)

Patricia - are you sure that your relatives were buried at Cote Des Neiges - the search link is to the Catholic part - if you find just one relative you can link back by just keying in the plot number Like section ND whatever and browsing who all else is buried there should all be family in the same plot.

I tried to find my grandmother (Annie Foy) who died in the 30s, but to
no avail. I'll be in Montreal in July, so that cemetery might be a
place to visit. I am sure it is beautiful. Anyone have a tip as to
where to stay that won't break my humble bank account? Maybe a B&B in

I got a response from a B&B in Verdun a couple of blocks from where my
family lived on 2nd. So thank you for the perfect tip. Btw I haven't
been there since the 70s and only briefly. Is there something I
shouldn't miss during the week I'm there. I want to see my old flat at
457, and maybe the current occupants will allow me a visit if I ask
nicely. I am a retired seaman, and on occasion I'll dream we dock at my
front door on second Avenue!

Hi Bill: I was in Verdun this afternoon and went by 457 2nd avenue. It is a bit rundown, the flat to the left of it has Christmas lights still hanging around the top of the balcony! Unfortunately, I forgot to take a camera with me. I have been making a list of photos to take and place on this site, including three areas of shabby Montreal streets where you can see streetcar tracks protruding from the broken pavement. I have also seen the new location of Emile Restaurant (of spruce beer fame) but have not had a chance to try their wares or take a photo. There is also some construction going on at the Nat; don't know what is being done. Ralph.
