Boulangerie Avenue Gordon Avenue Bakery

There was recently discussion on a bakery on Gordon ave. The name was Inter City Baking Co. Ltd, 814 Gordon ave. and I recently published a picture of the building. I found this information at the SHGV in the guide called Professionals, Industrials and Merchants of the City of Verdun 1940-1941. Enclosed is page 100 showing businesses on Galt Ave. and page 101 for Gordon Avenue. There is also a guide available for residents and adresses for the same period.

Guy, I remember that bakery well. The delivery man would come right to our door with a large metal basket which held just about one of everything he was selling, even bread??? One great cake I remember was called "Lemon Congo".  (a cake pie shell, filled with lemon filling. I was about 12 when the delivery guy said I could help do his deliveries. Did it only twice as I had to be up at the bakery by 6: 00 AM to meet him. Looked at your Gordon Ave listing. Noticed Wood Hall. In my class at LaSalle Rd. school was Ron Woodall whose father owned the Wood Hall. They had dancing there all through the 40's. The hall was later taken over (early50's ?) by CKVL. And......I saw the list of phone numbers on the street directory. Wow! I even remember my number ...YOrk 5081! Thanks for the memories! Art

Hello Guy, Thank you , it’s a major contribution to the group. (Professionals, Industrials and Merchants of the City of Verdun 1940-1941) (By transforming the file format from bmp to jpg, the size of the file is reduced from 700KB to 71KB). We are hoping for other pages ... JMH

Guess I was pretty close when I called it Inter City Bakery a few weeks ago, the old mans memory is still not too bad even though his hard drive is fully overloaded.   Here is that old picture of the Inter City Bakery Wagon as an attachment.   I'll be driving from Wellington to Champlain Blvd. next week, I do that just about every time I go visit, it brings back memories of the best times in my life. leaving California on the Red Eye Thursday Night and will be sitting at a restaurant on St. Patrick near Charlevoix before Noon on Friday. Those in the know, know which restaurant I am referring too.

BTW The Drive from Wellington to Chamlain will be done on Gordon Ave.   Regards, Bob G

I had spoke to Les a few weeks ago and that was in my plans if nobody had already submitted a picture of it as of yet. So I will trek on over to the Nat next week and get a few frontal shots, There also has been an addition to the rear of the pool. A few summers ago, Ii visited the big white tent in the rear, the music being played was put on by a Mexican Mariachi band along with singers. All were in full costumes. The beer was flowing pretty good, mainly LaBatt's 50, did not see any Coronas around, guess that is not too popular on the east coast??    Well folks, I'm off to a Kiwanis Meeting for some good old Pizza and B##r and a good old time.   Bob G
