Hi Arbutus,
La d챕pannaillerie on Bannantyne (Bi챔re froide) Which address ??? which corner on Bannantyne ??? (Maybe Bob Gaboury may be of some help (his parents had a commerce on Bannantyne)) Mom & Dad Gaboury early 1990's If you came into Mado's at the corner of Bannantyne and Gordon in the late 50's and early 60's, they were there to serve you. Bob Gaboury Camarillo, California, United States BobGaboury@aol.com   Have nice holidays JMH

Hint: I think this photo was taken at a later date than indicated - 1950 I don't think so ! - ----   Gary

You’re right Gary, The seven digits phone numbers were implemented in August 1961 in Verdun. On the photo, a 7-digits number appears: 767-3177 for La d챕pannaillerie JMH

Ok - I'll tell you the name !!!! Proudfoot's corner of Manning and Bannantyne. I lived on Moffat between Verdun Ave and Bannantyne, close to St John the Devine Anglican Church, and of course recognized the picture when I saw it. Well actually I had to study the picture for a while. What finally clicked was the fact that I could make out the letters FOOT'S on the sign. The photo date was deceiving - the fact that the phone number was 737-3177 was from a more up to date era as noted by J-M, signs are also unilingual  french and a car rear end just visible at the left hand corner of the photo convinced me that the photo was probably taken around late 70's to mid 80's.   Gary

Good forensic work Gary !!! But you were familiar with this historical building ! :-))) I could hardly detect P..... OOT on the old sign. I suspect the corner to be the NE one ? What happenned to St. John the Devine Anglican Church in Verdun (after 2000) ? St. John The Divine Anglican Church (Verdun) Date of foundation ???? -2000 Closed (or transformed) in 2000 ??? Information taken from: ANGLICAN CHURCH RECORDS IN MONTREAL 1760 - 2000 http://www.rootsweb.com/~qcmtl-w/AngCHrecords.html   BUT MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THIS CHURCH IS GIVEN IN THE BOOK: History of Verdun by Julien D챕ziel. (The English translation of Histoire de Verdun, published in 1976) ... First reunion presided by Rev. Leslie Dunwell on April 9, 1929. This meeting was held at Woodland School. The basement was completed in January 1930 an the church on November 30, 1937. The question still is: What happenned to St. John the Devine Anglican Church in Verdun (after 2000) ? JMH

Hi Gary Yes, you get the name and the function. But you still have to find the period of the mandate and the surname ... easy ! JM
