Hi Patricia,   When I was a kid all the kids wore those black and white running shoes. And if you were rich enough to get a new pair and not hand me downs you would go out side and rub them in the mud so that your friends would not bug you to death and stomp your feet until they looked old.  Dannyb-

hey danny b i remember those well. i also rember those plaid ones. the kids today would laugh if you told them to wear them. but here the style has become for the girls to go out with pj bottoms on. i wonder what would have happened to us if we wore them to vhs instead of the tunics. patsy

Sharon I remember those shoes. I have had bad (sore) feet all my life. A friend of mine told me about them. She said they were ugly, but very comfotable. I wore them forever. When I got back to Vancouver Washington I bought another pair. But it is sad, because I can't find them anymore. Winston Allison

Hey guys, do you remember penny loafers. i forget now but depending on if you had 1 or 2 pennys it would depend if you were going steady. also something to do with no pennys. also if your sneakers had one bow towards the toe ment you were going steady. now we dont bother to tie them tight just tight enough to slip them on without doing up the laces. my newest granddaughter who is one yr. old has a pair that light up red when she walks.  patsy

anybody remember "earth shoes"? the heels were actually lower than the rest of the shoe. Supposed to imitate walking in sand. Must have been mid seventies.

I remember my father buying me shoes for $10, and that was pretty much average. A pair of North Star, or Adidas, the white plastic shoes with the blue stripes, ran about $25, and I had to beg to get them. We had to make sure we got our money out of them, they had to last a year lol. I remember buying a pair of Nike in the eighties , and I  paid $110. I told my dad, and he nearly fainted! He went on all day about  the price hahaha. When  I buy shoes now, I make sure that I tell him how much I paid. It is getting ridiculous. I see shoes, that are $250. I can't think of how better these would be compared to a $100 pair of running shoes. It boggles the mind.   Mike

Remember the black & white running shoes , that had a round disc on the ankle, and we used to peel them off (I have no idea why,but we did) I think they were a canvas material & probably cost three or four bucks,.......and you had to make those last...........hahahaha    Now it costs three or four bucks in Gas just to drive your kid to the mall......hahhahaha   Then you fork out another whack of DoReMi , just to get the 'Right type of glorified running shoe for that Special activity  (usually sittin in front of a computer screen.............hahahahahah

Anyone remember the sandals we wore called "J.C.'s"? Short for Jesus Christ sandals --- they had the toe ring that your big toe went thru and they were thong style. REAL cheap too, but don't get them wet too much or they fell apart hehe. They were SO comfy, but your feet ended up filthy at the end of the day.  Ah...nothing a bit of soap and water couldn't cure. Ive been looking for them here to no avail. Looked for them in Verdun too before I left early last summer. Anyone know where they can be found by any chance? Luv, Sharon

Hi Sharon  ..... try  www.onevillage.org/sandals.htm       hahahahah  I have no idea why I looked for this , but You got me with the Toe thing ,   so I typed in 'Toe Loop Sandals'   and there's seems to be lots of choices Good Luck ........hahahaha   Hey Remember the other Weird shoe for awhile ' Clogs'  weren't they .....They looked like you'd be walking on a piece of 2 x 4's   ...hahaha   I Remember a teacher that wore those but can't think of the name........

sharon_starr MSN said...

Hey thanks Les! That is exactly the sandal that I meant too! Only the ones at that site are MUCH better-made and of superior quality than the ones I used to buy for 5 - 7 bucks Cdn. Guess that why they're priced at 19 and a half POUNDS hehe. Totals to about 40 bucks Cdn I believe. Which isn't bad. Hmmmmm....lol Thanks again Les, And ummmmm whaddaya mean the (Toe thing) got ya? hahahaha! I...won't....go....there..... Yes I remember the clogs too! Also those cheap, black, cotton little Chinese shoes with the small strap the went over the top of your foot and buckled on the side. Not for the men tho! LOL!   Luv, Sharon

mom1945-linda MSN said...

Hi Sharon, I believe the clogs were wooden soled Dr. Scholl's.  They looked so darned uncomfortable, but were in fact comfortable after you wore them a little. Cheers, Linda

sharon_starr MSN said...

Hi Linda Yes there were the Dr. Scholl's sandals and then there were also the "clogs".  They were wooden soled slip-ons but closed at the toe. They were comfy too but hell if your shoe happened to half slip off and you ended up getting the heel of the shoe in the arch of your foot! Yow. Luv, Sharon

maggiemck MSN said...

JC sandals, we used to buy them at a little "east indian" shop next to Prince George's restaurant near the corner of Rielle on Wellington. They sold other "interesting" items there too. Sharon, the shoes you posted do look like the ones I had in mind. I think of Clogs as heavy wooden soles and open backs. They sell them again. My daughter tried a pair on at the store today. Platform shoes were my faves. Added a few inches to my height without making me stand on my toes.

les__f MSN said...

Hi Maggie ..........by the term east indian store is this perhaps a reference to what we called 'Head Shops'  with Hookaks & other paraphenalia???     hahahahahha   I seem to Remember one near the corner of Rielle & Wellington in the early 70's  .........

les__f MSN said...

Hi Sharon ...don't forget that 7bucks Canadian in the early 70's perhaps late 60's would be fairly close to 19 pounds today............and if it's slightly more then I think   I can safely say that to equal things in the early seventies , then I would have to Drop a few Pounds as well anyway......hahahahahha

maggiemck MSN said...

I just bought my JC sandals there!  really!

sharon_starr MSN said...

Hey Mag...that's one of the places that I used to get them too. There was also another place like that on Wellington down near Hickson. The place near Rielle is now a purse place and doesn't sell the same kind of stuff. Which is just as well if you ask me....lol. Yeah we remember the same clogs, I just wasn't able to describe them right. Luv, Sharon

sharon_starr MSN said...

Once again, I didn't explain myself properly hehe. I paid that amount the last time I bought a pair about 10 years ago. So of course the price would still be a bit higher nowadays but probably not that much more. These J.C.'s stayed relatively the same price for many years...go figure...lol. As for having to drop a few lbs. to equal things in the early 70's....hmmm yeah I guess I can relate to that one too....lol. Luv, Sharon

Funny you mention runing shoes. Some of them now go for $300. I will always remember my father thought that $10 -$15, was expensive for them. I bought a pair of NIKE Air Max, when they first came out, as I was a frequent runner, and they wer great cushioning. I paid  $110 for them, and they lasted over a year, was a good bargain. I would ask my father how much did he think I paid for them. When I told him, he just couldn't believe I could pay that much for running shoes. To Cookie and Margo,   The Gerry Castleman that you are referring to. Did he live on 3rd or 4th Ave. I thought he lived upstairs next door to my grandmother. She lived at 1002 4th Ave. His would have been 1006. Gerry was about 3 or 4 years older than I and gave me an old stamp collection of his that he was no longer interested in. I am still a stamp collector. He also as I remember had a friend Jerry Mercer, who played with Triangle, Mashmakan and April wine.

Habfan/Mike, Anyone remember the only "running" shoes we could get during the 40's were brown , and the sole was so thin you could feel any size stone through them.  Holes were made in them quite quickly so what to do? What else! We would take the pieces of cardboard that were put between the layers of Shredded Wheat and cut them to make insoles. Running on the bordwalk in these shoes, without an insole, meant long splinters shooting into these holes and often right into your foot. Then, a miracle! A NEW running shoe came out around 1950??? I believe they were called FLEETFOOT. The first running shoe ever that had a "cushioned sole". And when you had never experienced a cushioned sole in you life, these made you feel not only extremely comfortable, but that you were literally "walking on air". I believe the cost was about $5.95 which was huge for the times!   Art
