Verdun & Fires

Does anyone remember the outbreak of shed fires (as well as general building fires) that destroyed many homes in Verdun? One Christmas eve there was a small shed fire behind 260 Osborne where I lived at the time. Today there was a fire that destroyed the block including 1407 Manning. Everyone (including a woman I work with) lost all there belongings, According to the Pulse News, this fire was started by an unattended candle. Thankfully there were no injuries that were known of.

Hi Ralph,

Do you have any more information regarding the fire on Manning? I used to live at 1323 Manning, a little closer to Beurling Ave.
Thanks,

Alan

Alan; There is another fire to read about on the Montreal gazette web site. Last night on Beurling near VCHS just across the street from a co-worker Richard Kaminski.

I left Verdun in 1956 and Montreal in 1977 and did not know the addresses of the homes that were destroyed by the fire. I used to live at 762 Osborne. I heard there was a fire there but was not sure of the addresses. What caused the fires. Valiquette.......

Hi,   I lived at 709 Osborne Ave. from 1980-84.There was a huge fire May? 1980.I think that 6 blocks burned down across the street from me.The fire burned all night and about 36 families were left homeless. My wife's niece (and family) lived in one of the bottom flats. They lost everything including their truck.Eddie Muir
