Bim, I never lived at 1069 Allard I lived at 1077 Allard in the late 60's early 70's. I remember the Carter's, MacPherson's, Laprestie (sp), Mathews', Collinson's, there are so many more from Allard on the tip of my tongue (or fingers) and so many more on neighboring streets.   Louise Gibson

louise19551 MSN said...

Bim,   I am pretty sure there were no Boyles on my block.  I don't recall the name either, what were their first names?  Did you live near Morris Taylor or the Halvorsen sisters?   Louise

coachbim MSN said...

hi louise i went thru hs with morris taylor and lynn halvorsen and i knew donna.my parents know their mom.i think her name was betty.   the boyles arrived on allard around the same time i did.so u might not know them.   bim

winterhater MSN said...

Hi Bim, You mentioned the Boyles, my parents were very good friends with them.  I believe they were Darcy and Bev and they had three children, Katherine, Martin and Edward.  Darcy was a fireman for Hampstead, he passed away years ago and Katherine and her family are living out West.  Her mom is living with them the last I heard. Martin and his family were living  in LaSalle and I don't know where Edward is, I think he is still in Montreal.

Hi Mike,   I don't remember Glen Cheval, sorry.  That is horrible about Roddy.  Gerry Jones told me about Roddy just a couple of days ago.  Some things are just so hard to believe.  Was Roddy married? if so to whom? children?   I noticed your last name is Veinot, any relation to Peter?   Louise

louise19551 MSN said...

Hi Bim   Speaking about Allard being a street to be from.  Do you remember when there was a street dance.  They blocked the street off between Bannantyne and Monteith.  There was music, hot dogs, etc.  I have no idea who organized it but it was wonderful.   Louise

winterhater MSN said...

Hi Bim You never got back to me about asking your dad if he remembered the following women:  Esther Neil (my mom), Noreen Hanrahan, Mrs. Lee Brennan, and Mrs. Nora McCarthy.  I believe they all coached a hockey team (the kids were so little and unsteady on their feet, the refs had to carry them to the face off and they were always picking them up off the ice)  Also, these women did a lot to get VCH built.

coachbim MSN said...

HIYA KAY. I DIDNT FORGET I JUST NEEDED A REMINDER,IM SEEING MY DAD TONITE SO I WILL ASK HIM WILL GET BACK TO U.   BIM

coachbim MSN said...

hi kay. ok i spoke with my dad and yes he remembers your mom esther and mrs hanrahan being involved in hockey at willibroad park.the other 2 ladies names didnt ring any bells but says that could have been possible.he also mentioned that there is a possibilty that your dad and him might have worked together.he definitely knows your family because the first thing he said to me was that you lived behind us when we lived on allard.so theres a connection.   bim

winterhater MSN said...

Hi Bim, Thanks for asking him.  Where did your dad work?  My dad was a conductor for the Toronto run at CNR for many years.  He worked for CNR for 50 years and when he retired, they gave him a gold pass on CNR but he said that he would never step onto a train again after he retired because he was sick of them.  I didn't  blame him at all...ha.ha.  My mom used the pass a couple of times to go out west.  I still have it as a momento. H

coachbim MSN said...

HIYA KAY MY DAD ALSO WORKED AT THE CNR AND THATS WHAT HE TOLD ME THAT YOUR DAD ALSO WORKED AT CN.WAS YOUR DADS NAME BILL.MY MOM USED MY DADS PASS TO DO THE VANCOUVER RUN TWICE I THINK I HAVE BEEN ON A TRAIN TWICE IN MY.MY GRANDA WAS A CPR MAN RETIRED WITH OVER 50 YEARS SERVICE.HIS PORTRAIT USED TO BE IN WINDSOR STATION.   BIM

winterhater MSN said...

Hi Bim, Yes, my dad's name was Bill.  It's such a small world.  He passed away in 1978 and my mom passed away in 1987.  It does not seem that long for the both of them.  I have many great memories of my parents.  Ask your dad if he also knew Stanley Carter.  Apparently after he retired, or just before, he was the first Canadian to be killed in a highjacking in the US.  I still have the paper that ran a story of his death.  Kay

alanarchie MSN said...

Hi WinterHater,

Funny you should metion that about CNR... My Dad was an engineer with CN for 45 years. After he retired, I tried to get him interested in a model railroad club, but he said after spending that much time on a train, he didn't have any desire to have anything to do with them. He only used his gold pass a couple of times, but if he was out, he would sit and watch them with a passion. Never could quite understand it at all!

mom1945-linda MSN said...

Hi, My dad also worked for CNR for years as a carman.  Worked at the Round House and also at Cote de Liesse.  Same story, got a pass when he retired and never used it.  Knew everything about an engine...whenever we passed one he would ask us the number then proceed to tell us all about it.  Even took us to the Round House several times.  He never took a trip after he retired. Cheers, Linda

coachbim MSN said...

hi guys, its ironic our dads working all those years for the railway and never getting on a train again.my dads still living and he has not been on a train since retiring.and even whilst working for the cn.he had an office job so his train use was minimal.problably been on a subway train more often than a rail train.my grandfathers gold pass was more than a train pass.his gold card cover cp trains, planes, ships and hotels anywhere in the world that cp went.he used it well but never used a train.funny   bim
