Verdun Dreamin'

After reading the discussions/notes concerning memories of the "Good Old Days" my nostalgia sensors kicked in. Having left Verdun in 1952, after graduating VHS, there were lots of memories left behind. Several BAD ones, but MORE of the GOOD ones! The 40's were the best! Verdun was smaller, there were green fields, open spaces just past Crawford Park, Ville Lasalle was hardly populated. A bicycle ride from Verdun along Lasalle Boulevard was an adventure. Pedalling over to 'Caughganawaga' and Chief 'Poking Fire's Teepee, with swims in the river along the way.We rowed out to Nun's Island in an old two pointed row-boat and camped there overnite, there was no bridge, no buildings, Golf course or people. Our little group of friends once swam across to Nun's Island ,knowing where to take a 'stand up break' We shot the RAPIDS in that old boat and survived! We saw the ice breakup every spring and soon rowed out to the island thru the ice floes! Couldn't wait til summer.Swimming at the Nat just after it was built was a blast! Seemed like a long summer, then, but living here in Florida is where the endless summer really is and yep, I'm still into adventures!  Actually living the memories and dreams I had then.Verdun was a good beginning, prepared me for adventures in California(25 years) and now Florida! If you want adventure, try sailing! Surfing,Diving and just pedalling a bike, yep, I still do that too! Sez Victah

SAY HELLO here ?-SANTA CLAUS

Hey, speaking of snow, in Ste Anne de Bellevue today is their 5th annual
Santa Claus parade. Festivities start early with free hot chocolate and
candy canes and games for the kids. The parade starts at
4:00 p.m. Last year, there were over 16,000 people that came to the parade
and there are a lot of floats and marching bands that participated in the
Montreal parade. So, if you're still living in the Montreal area, and love
the excitement of a parade in a small town, come on down and check it out.
Brenda

P.S. It's snowing right now! That will add extra excitement to the parade

A Cat's Dictionary

Having a cat myself, I find this very useful.....lol
Libra
Miaow.......Feed me.
meeow.....Pet me.
mrooww.....I love you.
miioo-oo-oo.....I am in love and must meet my betrothed outside beneath  the  hedge.  Don't wait up!
mrow.....I feel like making noise.
rrrow-mawww.....Please, it's time to tidy the litter box.
rrrow-miawww.....I have remedied the cat box untidiness by shoveling the contents as far out of the box as was practical.
miaowmioaw.....Play with me!!
mioawmioaw.....Have you noticed the shortage of avilable cat toys in this room?
mioawwmioaww....Since I cn find nothing better to play with, I shall see what happens when i sharpen my claws on this handy piece of furniture.
raowwwww.......I think I will now spend some time licking the most private parts of my anatomy
mrowwwww.....(only heard in males) I am now recalling, with sorrow, that some of my anatomy parts did not return with me from that visit to the vet.
roww-maww-roww....I am so glad that you have returned home with both arms full of groceries. I will now rub myself against your legs and attempt to trip you as you walk towards the kitchen.
mmeww.....I beleive I have heard a burglar. If you would like to go and beat him senseless, I shall be happy to keep your spot in the bed warm.
gakk-ak-ak.....My digestive passage seems to have formed a hairball. Wherever could this have come from? I shall leave it here upon the carpeting.
miow.....Snuggling is a good idea.
moww.....Shedding is pretty good too.
mowww!....I was enjoying sunggling and shedding in the warm, clean laundry until you removed me so unkindly!
miaow! miaow!......I have discovered that, although one may be able to wedge one's body through the gap behind the stove and into that little drawer filled with pots, and pans, the reverse path is slightly more difficult to navigate.
mraakk!.....Oh, small bird! Please come over here.
ssssroww!.....I beleive I have found a woodchuck. I shall now act terribly brave.
mmmmmmmm........If I sit in the sunshine for another week or so, I think I might be satisfied.

Map of Verdun

Has anyone have a problem clicking the 'Map of Verdun' ? I get sent to
the MSN Groups home page every time. No big deal except I'd like to see
if there has been many changes to Verdun's layout. There might be
expressways now. I bought a 1950 Shell oil road map from eBay, which
shows the city of Montreal as I knew it. I believe many of the city
street\ names have changed over there years. Many more named in french.

Dominion Glass Employees

I'm still trying to locate Donald Snow, former employee of Dominion Glass before it went "Belly UP." Anyone remember Don ? (Besides Tony) If you know anyone that worked for that Company could you get in touch with them and ask about him for me. I'd appreciate it. Sez Victah.

Diane Bogo

Does anyone remember a very pretty but sad girl named Diane Bogo. She
may have lived close to the 5th Avenue movie theater which was on
Wellington. I dated her once in the fifties, and then lost touch with
her. We must have been 14 or 15 at the time. I have thought about her
from time to time, hoping she would have had experienced a happy life.
Mystical how memories evolve.

and my heart, O my soldiers, my veterans, my heart gives you love."-

TEST TUBES

Hi Les;
I remember the old tubes and the testers. I had a party at my place here
last year. There were a lot of young people here. So I took out an old tube
and asked if anyone knew what it was? Of course they didn't. So I had to
explain how some stores had these machines, especially pharmacies, where you
would bring your tubes to test them. They were in awe!!!!! I though it was
pretty funny.
